I was able to complete the one panel I started yesterday. I think it turned out pretty good. Let me know what yall think.

Also, as I am finishing the panels, I am tightening the bolts that hold the pad to the boat. You have to hold the bolt and then tighten the square nut. For those that have loose pads, it's probably because this square nut has come loose.

I started on the long one that has two speakers in it. I got the baffle made for the one just like the completed piece. All I have to do for this piece is to make the thicker one. I think that I can make it thick enough by adding only one other layer of wood. Then it's off to the bow, and I'm done. Good thing as I am getting tired of cutting holes. I think I need to make me a cnc router. I have attached a pic of the piece of mdf that I started with last summer. It used to be a full 8ft sheet. If you take every hole in there and multiply by two you end up with the total number of times I had to cut a hole. There's gotta be a better way.

    Enjoy!

Ja! We struggled to separate a few of the pieces and managed to completely %*&^$ up one of the bottom braces! But like I said, the grit and grime in-between the parts was absolutely unbearable, and it’s all been worth it! Fortunately we do a bit of carpentry on the side so it’s all an easy fix.

You know, we have 1/1000th of the market here, compared to the States. I find it so frustrating. So.. my choice's were from a product called Teak Oil (750ml) or Teak Oil (2ltr).

Like those very cool speaker grills you have. (the new mountings looks solid dude) Only found on the new boats here, no where else!!!!
Not one car/audio shop carries custom speaker grills. You buy the whole speaker to get the grill, can't just buy the grill.

The grills that I have came with the polk mmc650's. I don't think that they would fit anything else as they have a crazy square hole pattern. The driver itself actually has only 3 mounting points in a triangle.

I NEED HELP!!!!!! What type of industrial, mack truck, peterbilt, caterpiller type of stapler do you have to use to staple through resin soaked fiberglass?

I got the thicker trim ring made for the pad that has two speakers in it. I got the thinner one put in and the vinyl stretched back. I got part way around to reattaching the vinyl around the curve and then bang....I hit a brick wall. I even went to my pops house to get his stapler. They just stop right at the top surface and destroys itself.

I am going to have the same problem when I get to bow, as that whole thing is fiberglass.

So here are my options that I can think of...

          1) Go to an upholstery shop and get them to reattach it.
          2) Go to Harbor Freight and get a pneumatic stapler. I would like to but I'm way over budget as it is. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=46365

          Thanks!!!!!

          Ewwww.

Is that the BS staple gun you have been using. Senco is the only way to go.

pneumatic is the only way to take on a project like that!
when i redid the interior on my '86 i started off with the old hand powered staplers.... that lasted about a day. only thing that the regular stapelers are good for is making u appreciate the pneumatic lol

So I finally finished the big piece. It's a good thing that my best friend's dad owns a boutique tool store. Yeah, Cody (aka csparks), your dad hooked it up. I should of went over there a long time ago. If I wasn't careful, that thing could probably shoot a staple clear through the fiberglass. The one piece of advice that I can give after working with the interior, is to make marks on the part and the vinyl, so that when you go to reattach it, you can stretch it to exactly the way it was before.

I only have the bow to do now. I should have it done by Saturday morning when the help arrives. I have attached pics of the fruits of my labor.

I know I am going way overkill, but I got those IP rated Neutrik connectors to make the speaker connection behind the pads. I looked at the non IP rated connectors, but these will be better for corrosion and I couldn't find a non-panel type mating connector. I want to be able to pull the cushions off at will. And, no.....the stock spade connectors will not suffice. Those are the worst connections you could ever use, much less on a boat driving across double ups. I will solder directly to the terminal and then terminate into one end of the connector setup. The other connector will then be hooked to the speaker wire. I use a pretty large 18Ga gauge 2-conductor cable, so the jacket should fit nice and tight in the boot.

I need to come up with some sort of clip to hold the connectors around the middle. I don't want those heavy things flopping around.
                Something like this: http://www.bltdirect.com/product.php...53&cat=442

                Cheers!

                Nice and Flush!

                  Nicely done.

I have reupholstered a few side panels, and went through the staplers much like you.

I also found a source for Stainless Steel Staples.... you did use stainless staples.... riiiiiight?

Have you put any more coats on the swim deck? We need to get started because it takes so long to dry. You want to put like a million coats on it also. Are we going to keep the extra cans?

No coats yet. It's my tool bench at the moment.

**** yes we are keeping the cans. Just gotta get someone to pony up and buy a pair of Wetsounds XS650's

You make no sense cody. Yes, these are for the interior speakers. Will they sound better...probably only because they will be securely mounted. I will also drive all six off of the Kenwood amp instead of the bows off the deck.

I ment the wetsounds speakers. You want to put them on the tower and they are interior speakers.

I have finally finished the interior speaker project. It took me pretty much all day to do the bow set. Overall, I am pleased with how they turned out. Tomorrow I am going to start epoxying some blocks on the hull to mount the neutrik connector holders and the crossovers.

Being mothers day and all, I didn't get to start working on the boat until about 2 this afternoon. It was steamy hot, no wind and the sun was out full blast. I went and borrowed one of those popup canopys to put over the boat. Ironically, that guy is one of the other owners of the boat. I had it setup with my fan kicking underneath and all was great. I was laying on my back clipping out some old wires under the dash. I happened to look up to see the canopy take off like a rocket ship and fly up about 15 ft in the air. I jump up to watch it barely miss our truck and then slam full force into my caddy. At this point it is being tossed in the air like a balloon when you let the air out. After hitting the g-ride, it shot back up into the air about 30ft, spinning over the top of my house and then slamming into my lawn on the side of my house. There was an old lady walking by when it happened and I thought she was about the pass out after seeing this carnage causing hunk of metal and canvas hurling her way. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the caddy and the boat. The cad got some pretty good scuff marks and knocked the old school cellphone antenna off. No big deal. The boat however, got a pretty good gouge on the bottom of the hull from the end of the leg. Oh well, I guess now I have a good reason to order that silvercloud gelcoat and fix a few trouble spots.

                                Lesson learned: Anchor the canopy!!!!

After all the carnage, I waited until it stopped pouring and then took the cover off so everything could dry out. I went to home depot to find some clamps for the connectors and some other stuff. I got some conduit clamps that I think will work. I also went to my work to pick up a few other items.

I was able to make the blocks that will hold the connectors. I cut the carpet out where they were gonna mount, and then resin'd them into the side of the hull. Tomorrow I will hopefully clean up the oem wiring along the gunnels and then run the wire to where the components will be located. I have decided to keep all the crossovers in a central location and then run 4-cond cable to each interior speaker.

Oh yeah...Cody came over and did a wetsanding on the deck and we put on another coat. Only thing that is left to do is to hit it with 1500 and 2000 and apply one more coat.

                                Poor Boat

                                **** canopy leg

The canopy doesn't look as good as it did before it took a trip into the wild blue yonder
