A very general answer should be about 10% of the total boat and trailer if it is well balanced. Probably not the answer you were looking for though.

Are you looking for clarification on whether your tow vehicle will suffice in towing? If so, just post up the info on the vehicle (but if you need that info for other reasons it might be harder to get you a specific answer like NCH said).

It should be less than 500lbs as this is what most trucks max towing tongue weight would be.

There's no problem with my vehicle, as it is rated for 7,000lbs. I'm thinking of buying an adjustable hitch and it's only rated for 500 lbs tongue weight. The link to the hitch is below - I need something like this so I can lower it to get up my driveway.

If the trailer is bottoming out when you try and back up the driveway - another way to fix this issue is to installer castor wheels/rollers on the bottom of the trailer frame - search for other posts on this topic as there are a bunch of other threads with good pics.

MOST hitches only have a 500 or 600 pound tongue weight limit...

is it a single or dual axle the singles seem to have alot of tonge wieght. i hate the way the single ramlins tow.

It's a dual.

JMO. I already have casters. Haven't tried them yet as the boat is new and still in storage. Just thought I'd add a little insurance with the drop hitch.

I had a trailer pop off one time doing 70mph. Not a boat, just a utility with a wood splitter in it. I bought one of these the next day, 15 years ago. I have not and will never wonder if I am within towing capacity of my hitch. Fairly cheap insurance if you ask me. And adjustable within like 18 inches if you flip it over.

My 2000SN with dual DHM trailer is about 200lbs tongue weight. Mine weights the same every time I see Andrew's avatar. :evil:
