    Drunken Boating Law - Iowa

The Iowa Senate has approved a proposal to lower the state's threshold for drunken boating. Under the bill, boaters will be held to the same standards as motorists when drinking.

The Senate rejected a House proposal to create a two-tier system based on the size of the boat's motor. The stricter limit would apply to drivers of boats with bigger engines.

The measure returns to the House.

Good job Iowa.. It can always be safer on the water.

I have no problem with that.

I personally don't believe in drinking while on the lake. the sun alway dehydrates you, and beer will just not put the water back in your system.

I personally think beer should be kept for the end of the day after you have been on the lake.

Hopefully it will now be safer to boat in the afternoons on Clear Lake? We usually have our Nautique put away before noon due to all of the idiots.

California has a similar law - and, if you get a drunken boater violation, it goes on you record the same as if you had a drunken driving violation. BKH

I don't booze it up when out riding or driving the Nautique, but if I can't booze on my 50hp Pontoon when the lake gets too rough and we're done riding, then I might as well sell it!
