Disclaimer: I hope this isn't too lame or inappropriate.
Backstory: I was a geek in high school. When my friends and I would run across someone that was being a little too... whatever, we would say they had a stick up their butt. Well, then it became a tree up the butt. Then we would decide what kind of tree to discern the severity of the persons behavior.
So, apologies to any WI DNR officials out there. But, I ran across one this last weekend that totally had a white pine up the you-know-where. My family has been skiing on "our" lake in northern WI since water skiing was invented. Never had issues with the DNR. Granted we've been bending the rules a little bit laterly. However, I was scolded by the DNR this last weekend for leaving my portable slalom course in overnight. I know the law. But, we've never had a problem just leaving it in for a few days. After having it in for 2 nights, the DNR official came over to our cabin and gave us what for. I tried to play innocent. He explained that it could not be left in. I asked if there was a permit I could obtain (knowing full well that there is). He says, "Nope. We don't issue permits for slalom courses." Hmmm...
He then proceeds to tell me that we should really take it out as soon as we are done skiing. He does not like to see a slalom course on the lake becuase it "Privatizes the lake".
Really? Ok. It's 50 degrees F, cloudy, and windy. There are NO other boats on the water. I'm really privatizing the 1100 acre lake with my slalom course WAY at one end where nobody goes. How is that privatizing it any more than a bunch of fishermen sitting in that spot all day?
Anyway, sorry for the ranting and raving. I know I should just follow the rules. Hope everybody else's weekends were a little smoother than mine.
