Hi, I'm new here

Yeah, Im the new guy with all the (hopefully not so) dumb questions. I'm actually a golf pro but I hope you wont hold that gainst me. Years ago I quit golf and went to waterski instructors' camp for sh*ts and giggles. ****ed if I didnt get hooked.

Anyhow, I still don't own a boat as I know I'd be disappointed as h*ll if I didnt at least buy an inboard. That summer of driving and riding a new Moomba outback has me spoiled.

Having said that, I already know (research helps) Nautiques are the best ... esp if you're not buying new and that the 2001 hull is famous for throwing sweet wakes.

I thought I'd appologize in advance for the barrage of questions and I'm sure it gets old babysitting every flippin wannabe that happens along.

I've got another thread going but I've just started the research I think is required to make an intellegent purchase.
Basically, I prefer the hull / body style of the '91 SN and slightly new but I plan to mostly wakeboard. I keep hearing about the amazing wake behind the 2001 hull and I've already been informed that theres a newer style interior in the '88 and '89 SN.

Bad news is the floor / stringers was still wood until '93, so they say.

I've seen many readers rides that were '91 and newer with wakeboard towers and extended pylons so there must be a way to get desent wake results with that boat.

I've also seen '80s SN re-finished looking really sweet.

Bascially, how does one make the most intellegent purchase to get a boat requiring the least repairs, gives good wake for boarding, and doesnt require a new floor and stringers ??

When you're looking at an old boat (such as a SN 2001) take note of visual cues....does the boat look like it's been stored outside? Are the boat's hoses, belts, plugs, cables, visible fliud leaks, rust in good shape? will the bolts anchoring the motor mounts to the stringers spin?
carefully walk around the floor to feel for softness.....if the floor flexes it means that some kind of moisture has made it's way into the foam and probably the stringers as well. Take a look through the rear access hole and look for visible signs of problems with the stringers, check for soft flooring near the batery box located under the passenger seat. Are there clusters of spider cracks in the gel coat?
If any of these problems become evident, you know you'll have some kind of issue in the future.

Ha ha ha. More spin comes from better conditions in most cases. In order to spins the ball a lot you'll need to make contact with the ball with very little grass between the ball and the clubface.
Also, firm ground or even hard pan (known in the industry as REALLY hard ground that hasn't seen water this millenium) helps to compress the ball and impart more spin.

Conversely, for some strange reason a 30 - 50 yard bunker shot imparts a butt load of spin also and shots can be spun back 10 feet with relative ease.

If you're not hitting DOWN on the ball you've got no chance of spinning it. Never try to help the ball into the air.
