looks like he was trying to jump it. if you hit a set of big rollers in the middle of a power slide the boat will come clean out of the water and complete at least a 180 before landing going backwards. even if done exactly right you submarine it going backwards and get up to a foot of water in the boat.
if you don't hit the rollers just right it either noses hard into them (the best scenario) or slams REALLY hard into the side, this will absolutely eject any passengers and possibly the driver. we used to do this when young and in someone else's boats(ski school). extremely stupid, can't believe we didn't kill someone. amazingly the nautiques held up.
That's the stupidest thing I have ever seen! Why on earth would you want to fill your boat with water? Very Lucky in my opinion! Oh and that was very irresponsible on Murray's part! Somebody did that to me and was in pain for a while. Almost broke my finger when I got thrown from the seat unannounced!
If you don\'t do it today, you will be one day older when you do!!
He did not purposely submerge that boat. Came in too early for a powerturn after the outboards do their flyby, and you saw what happened whey he tried to slow down. Not sure if he actually bumped reverse or not but once it goes under it's a scoop now.
A buddy of mine did a power turn and flew a passenger into the helm. Passenger had a hairline fracture in his tibia and a rather large fued ensued due to insurance claims.
It seems like with the newer boats, you really have to get some speed to make them slide. With my 93, you could do them in the mid 20 mph range no problem. I think I've done two, maybe three power turns/slides in the four years I've had the boat.
I heard from the driver in that video - here is what he sent me.
I’m the driver of the boat in the video. And yes everyone was ok..
To explain better.. At the end of every show we bring both MC’s in to do a power turn in front of the crowd then our Twinrig does some showing off as well.
When we do these shows in Plymouth, MN the local news station comes and films it and broadcast’s it. So they made me a copy and a friend from my club helped me get this on YOUTUBE.
So - everyone was ok (thank goodness) and it was definitely an accident. Amazing video though.
Nice report Erik, you must have the inside stuff... Very cool that everyone was ok.
Thanks Kraven. I don't know that I always have the inside stuff - but it was brought to his attention that I posted the story on my site and he mailed me. It is neat to hear from the people and events that I cover though.
