Franklin Freestyle Wakeboard Tourney Draws Crowd

CAMP NICOLET -- This weekend over 100 people showed up for the first Franklin Freestyle Wakeboard Tournament out at Camp Nicolet.

Despite some choppy waves, the first ever Franklin Freestyle Tournament was held to raise money for the Christopher Starz Leadership Memorial Fund.

Chris Starz ran the Northpoint Adventures Wakeboarding School where he taught many people wakeboarding and other outdoor activities.

Chris died in a car accident back in March of 2006 and that's when the memorial fund was set up in his name.

The fund will allow both youth and adults from all walks of life to experience all sorts of outdoor adventures in a camp-like setting.

"Friends of the family approached me and they said we feel like we haven't done quite enough. and we would really like to be able to contribute to the memorial fund in a way that's meaningful. And since Chris was so into wakeboarding as one of his many things... this would be appropriate to do."
