So a few weeks ago I decide to get rid of my 2004 F-150 and buy something with more towing capacity. I have had two Ford's and havent had the best of luck so I decide to buy a Chevy. I go to the dealership and decide on a new 2007 2500 HD. They didn't have the exact truck that I wanted but they found it at another dealership approx. 100 miles away. I didn't have the time to do all the paperwork at that time but came back the next day to finish everything up. When I arrive the sales manager says that the truck that I WAS going to buy was wrecked on a test drive but only "minor" damage was done. He shows me a copy of the estimate and it was just under 5K. More than just minor damage in my opinion. I told him no way am I buying a new truck that has already been crashed. So they find me a similar truck, although this one is without a few of the options that I wanted that was on the wrecked truck. I wasn't sure at first but agreed. They said that the truck was coming from Michigan so it would be a few days before it arrived....no big deal. So all the paperwork is signed, I own (or owned) the truck, all I needed to do was pick it up. I get a call today from my salesman and he proceeds to tell me that the dealership that they were going to get my truck from has sold the truck! As you can imagine I was more that upset. Am I expecting too much, or would you guys me mad too. They are supposed to be finding me yet another truck like the original one I wanted. Should I just tell them to shove it and go to another dealer??? Buying a vehicle shouldn't be this difficult.......

RE: Should buying a new truck be this difficult????
Dont buy a 2008 Fseries SuperDuty with a diesel........In their dispute with Navistar, Ford is using the new Navistar Diesel for this year only and will be going to their own diesel next year. Thus it will be a one year run....in a few years...hard to find parts and no working out the bugs. Oh yeah...and to work on the engine you have to pull the hood assembly.
And this is from a lifetime FORD truck owner (or maybe used to be).

I would recommend you look at the 2007 Tundra - 10,000 lb towing capacity. I have 2006 tundra (smaller 4.7 liter engine, 6500 lb tow capacity) which is the older model, but it rocks for towing my nautique. I've had 3 toyota trucks and have never had a significant issue during the 14 years I've been driving them. When I turned in my first truck after 7 years, it had 180k miles - and was still on the original clutch, and running like a champ. Right now is a good time to buy with the end of month approaching, just go in at 7PM on the last day to a dealer that has what you want on the lot and you'll be able to negociate a great price.2018 Ski Nautique 200 TE, H6

Don't look at the 07.5 Chevy or the Dodge either if buying new. The new emissions on the new diesels is killing them. So far they have poor mileage and reliability. If you can get a '06 Chevy D-max or '06 or '07 dodge with 5.9 Cummins then you should be fine.2016 SAN 210

I second going for a Toyota Tundra. As jmo pointed out the new 2007's have improved towing with the bigger engine. We have a 2004 Access Cab Tundra and it handles all that we throw at it. A friend has a first year production 1999 Tundra with 140k miles on it and no problems. Toyota is offering lot's of incentives right now for the 07's, our neighbor bought one with 0% for 5 years.

First of all, forget that dealership and go somewhere else. I went on www.gmbuypower.com to find my last two trucks (2005 GMC 2500HD LLY and a 2006 GMC 2500HD LBZ). Build the truck online with the options you want, search up and down the state by zip code or city and you will find which dealership has the truck you want, then call the fleet manager on the phone and make the deal. Drive there and buy it. Buy a Duramax with Allison tranny and be done with it. You want a ton of info to make your head spin, go on over to www.dieselplace.com

Where do you live? I sell GM we have several Duramax Silverado and Sierra's on the lot, maybe I can help. The deals right now are very good on these trucks. If I can help let me know, I will not give you any of the normal car sales BS. In the dealers defense though it does happen where the dealer they are getting a vehicle from on trade sells it out from under them.

I just bought an '07 Tundra last Friday.
This was to replace my '02 F250, and all I can say is wow, what a nce truck.
It is not a 3/4 ton truck, but I really did not need a 3/4 ton to tow my boat or a reasonable travel trailer. But it is not a typical 1/2 ton either.
I have not towed with it, but the power feels every bit as strong as the diesel truck it replaced, and it actually feels much faster.
So far I have been getting 16 MPG combined driving and only have 600 miles on it so far.
It does have the 5.7 engine, and is 4X4.
Buying it was a brease, told my salesman what i wanted, thenw aited for it to arrive. Went to the dealer with my old truck, and drove away in about 1 hour with all the paperwork completed.
Now we have a nice red truck that matches our boat in lieu of the black truck that did not match.

I used to work at a dealership. When it comes to the problems with dealer trades, it is not necessarily your dealerships fault. The dealerships are probably on the business side totally unreleated. If the truck is still on their lot and the other dealership has a customer, they're gonna sell it. More than once I had people sell trucks even after we had done all the paperwork on the trade. Be happy they disclosed the first truck had been wrecked, I've known quite a few people that would have just put you in the truck anyway.
As for what to buy, it all depends on how much your going to tow. If it's not tons of towing, getting a diesel is nice, but probably overkill.
I just got a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 with the hemi. It tows my boat spectacularly. I've been averaging almost 16mpg driving back and forth to work (mostly highway), and feel I'm probably getting 12-13 mpg towing the boat.Scott

Thanks for all of the replys, I understand that this all isn't the dealers fault but it is very frustrating. I got a call from the dealer last night and they think they found the truck I want and said it should be here by Monday.
BPSKI....Thanks for offering your help I wish I would have know that a week ago...I am looking for a 2007 2500HD LTZ, black with the dark interior, pretty much loaded, sun roof etc. I live in Columbus, Oh by the way, where are you?

Def locate on GM BuyPower. As far as dealer trades, yes it sucks for the dealers because they have to eat the time and miles versus selling you a truck off the lot. Did you try GMC? Same truck, but in my opinion better looking and come better standardly equipped. DONT SIGN ANY PAPERWORK TILL YOU SEE, DRIVE AND INSPECT THE TRUCK!!!
Best of luck!!!

I am in Northern Indiana just south of chicago. About 4.5 hrs from columbus. We don't have a truck equiped like that anyways, but that thing will be SWEET! That is a very tough truck to get. I only saw one (crew cab) in the entire state of Ohio.
