Wow, six deaths in one summer. I've lived in Florida my whole life so know that from time to time this happens but man, what a summer. I've not let the kids in the water doen here since July. Maybe extreme but better safe than sorry. We'll go back when the water temp goes to 80 or below.
Naegleria fowleri is a free living amoeba typically found in warm fresh water, from 25–35 degrees Celsius (77–95 degrees Fahrenheit) in an amoeboid or temporary flagellate stage.
I've never paid that much attention to the exact water temp before but I would guess its above 80 by June? In addition to high air temperatures the other factors sem to be less rain fall and low water levels. We had all 3 this summer. Maybe one thing that a few good tropical storms do is to keep things cooler and water levels higher.
