    Screw Anchor?

Does anyone use this style or mooring system?

The dock at the cottage barely extends far enough to tie the SN up to without the prop scraping bottom. I saw one of these in the Muskoka's in Ontario but never bothered to ask where the person got it from. He did say that it has worked well through many storms.

I would love to hear from anyone who uses one of these and what their opinions are?
As well does anyone know where to purchase these in Canada? Even better - Ontario?
I called Pride but they had no idea what I was talking about.

    Thanks

    RE: Screw Anchor?

Check a mobile home supply store. I did a search online and found the same anchor for a mobile home that costs $7.

          Screw anchors

What kind of bottom do you have? Screw anchors will work well in sand and gravel but won't hold in muck.

We looked at the Helix system when we re-did our jump anchors. Very expensive.

The other consideration is how you are going to put one in. If the bottom is packed like it was for our jump anchors, we could not get them in. We ended up driving a well point with 1.5 inch galvanized pipe. In 8 feet of water we put two 10 foot sections together and drove from a boat. Once we got the point and one of the 10 foot sections down to the bottom we unscrewed the top section didn't have to get wet. We did have a hole drilled through the bottom section and attached a chain to it for our anchors. Our jump anchors held all summer. You could do it in the winter if you have enough ice.

            Believe it or not! $4.99
My friend gave me one of these so I said, "ok". It holds one end of my boat to shore with the other end of my boat using an anchor buddy w/anchor. I couldn't believe it.

Thanks for the responses guys. My computer was zapped a few weeks ago but I am back!
              Found these as well. http://www.trimlinedesigncentre.com/page.php?44

Spoke to someone via email from this company. They say they tie up their 2300 lb boat with one of the 43" screws with no problem at all. One tip they offered was to use a strong spring between the screw and the chain to help reduce the jarring felt by the boat when the water gets rough.

                  RE: Screw anchors

Sorry for diggin up my old thread but just an update. I found ground screw anchors at TSC (tractor supply company) for about $14. I used one with an 8 foot chain this summer at the cottage with no issues. You can put them just about anywhere that suits and with 2 guys and a tire iron can screw one down 3 feet which should hold up to 20000 lbs in a decent soil/sand.
