Good destination lake in the Southeast?

We're thinking about a lake vacation next summer, and I'm sure some of our group has some good ideas. We have some friends visiting from Europe next summer and we would like to show them a houseboat experience, but I'm also open to renting a house/cabin. I would LOVE to go to Lake Powell, but the logistics for that trip make it very difficult, so I thought there must be a nice place in the Southeast that would be a great place to visit.

I've heard about Smith Mountain lake, but was told it's VERY busy.
I know a little about Lake Norris
I've been on a lake up in TN near Lynburg, I think, that I remember as beautiful.
Wish list would include scenery, somewhat secluded, glass in the morning, maybe a place or two to eat or drink accessible by boat, any other suggestions?

    Let's hear it gang.

    thanks,
    Jack

The lake you are talking about near Lynchburg is Tim's Ford Lake. We have a cabin on the lake. TF is a beautiful lake, but if you are looking for a "houseboat experience" I would reccomend Center Hill Lake in Smithville, TN. The lake is huge and their are no boat docks on the lake....so the scenery is beautiful. Lots of waterfalls, hills, etc. You literally would have a tough time going from one end of the lake to the other in a day. There are a couple of restaurants....one especially that is fantastic.

If you need help I will gladly try to get you some contact information to rent houseboats, etc.

If this drought we are in keeps up Smith Lake may not be worth going to. It is about 10 feet below winter pool right now and 30 below summer pool. Guntersville Lake is nice and you can rent cabins at the state park. I haven't been to Tim's Ford in about 10 years so I don't know much about it. You also have Lake Martin in Central Alabama that isn't too bad.

You should consider Blue Ridge, GA.

It's a great place to vacation in the north Georgia mountains. Lake Blue Ridge is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes you'll ever visit. In addition to the lake activity, there's hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, and many other activities.

We have a cabin rental company there with many beautiful cabins to choose from.

Mention that you are a PN member and we'll provide you with a great discount off your rental or a $100 gift certificate for a private, guided fly fishing trip.

Our website is www.escapetoblueridge.com which is also provided on this website on the links page.

My wife Pam would be happy to help you plan your vacation there.
