No for sale posts unless you have like 50 other posts first

I'm getting tired of the tools who have never contributed to this forum posting items, boats, etc. for sale as their first post and then never responding to questions, PM's, etc. Presumably the item, boat, etc. has sold and these posters, not being real forum members, do not have the common courtesy to reply to PMs or post in their thread that the item has sold. As such, I propose that we require that persons who post items for sale be real forum members. The proxy for this would be a post-count requirement. I suggest a minimum of 50. 50 seems like a high enough number such that a person would not be able to post a bunch of fake posts just to hit the threshold before they would get banned.

50 is "member" status I think so that seems logical. I agree in principle, but two potential downsides:

    1) Some new users cluttering the board with useless posts just to get to 50 so they can post their ad. We already have a few of those lurkers around this forum, don't need anymore.

    2) Will limit the gear/boats available for sale on here, may miss out on some deals...especially those non-enthusiasts (non PN members) that want to off their boat or gear for a cheap price. Example --- I don't actively perform nationwide searches on craigslist/ebay for wakeboard/nautique gear, but if I come across a deal on here from browsing the forum, I may jump on it.

If they don't respond, wasn't meant to be...annoying as that is...just my $0.02.

I think your idea is not very good. I have been a member longer than you and just because I don't stomp around posting responses to every thing doesn't mean I am not a member.

Some people just come on here and read, hunting down info that has already been covered you just have to use the search tab.

I'm on other forums that have similar rules and while it does help keep potential bad sales and unanswered posts to a minimum, most people don't read the forum rules and post anyway. This causes the mod to close the thread making more work for them. Those forums have a 100 posts or be a year member of the site which helps with people who just don't post much. They can also be validated by a forum member that may know them that meets the post requirements.

If neither of these seem like something we can do here, how about just letting mods know in a PM if you have been following a classified for say one month with no response. Then the add could be deleted to help clean up the site. I think one month would be plenty of time for someone to answer if they really want to sell an item even if they don't frequent the site.

First, I was going to let this thread die due to the valid points made by GoBig.

Second, why did you assume this was a personal attack on you? It was not. I don't know you from Adam. My post was one suggestion to deal with the problem of persons who come to this site to post 1 item for sale, sell it, and then never respond to PM's, thread posts, or even have the common courtesy to indicate that their item is sold. It does make a difference because if a person is looking to buy an item and there are several sources, knowing whether one of those sources is not really available could influence whether you buy something or bid on something from another source. One could easily lose the other source while waiting for the reply that never comes from the first source. Maybe you have done this and as such took this as a person attack on you. If so, I would suggest that you learn some common courtesy. If not, then I am flattered that you would use one of your 3 posts to participate in a thread I started.

Finally, you implied that my posts are useless. There are many here who have wanted information on installing batteries, isolator-combiners, ballast systems in d-drives, replacing vinyl, and doing other work on their boats that would disagree with your assessment of the value of my posts. If you do not believe that you can add value to the collective knowledge of this forum by posting, that is your choice. I find it interesting that the you do believe that you can add value by using one of your three posts to attack me, but not interesting enough to waste any more of my time on.

I agree with GoBig. You have to keep in mind that you or someone else may miss out on a good deal if we require a minimum post amount. I sure wouldn’t want to miss out on a great deal from a “newbie” or a “junior member” like southcal.
It is kind of notorious when you don’t get a response from someone, but its just not meant to be then. As mention by core-rider being able to notify the site administrator about a problem with a For Sale post would be the best route.
              Just my thoughts.
