Pictures & Attachments

I am sorry to report that PlanetNautique has experienced a loss of pictures and attachments on certain posts. We were able to recover most of them, but some were permanently lost. The recovery is scheduled to complete this evening, and after that, if your pictures are missing from your posts, you will have to edit the post and reload them.

We have determined the cause of the issue, and will take steps to prevent it from happening again.

Also, we learned that our hosting company does not complete backups. Luckily, I had a backup of our attachments directory from a couple of years back, so all of those attachments are being restored. I also happened to have a partial backup of that directly that was pretty new, but not 100% complete. Those are being restored, too.

I am adding a monthly manual backup of the attachment directory to my scheduled tasks so that if this issue ever happens again, I will have a more complete backup of the attachments directory.

Yes, that's a perfect example. Almost everything pre-2021 should be restored, and about 75% of the rest should too, but unfortunately it looks like some of the most recent stuff is gone.

I learned the same lesson.. My IT person passed away and we thought, and we were always assured, that we had secure data backup. We had no loss of data but had we at any time it would have been a mess. Do one yourself every so often.

354 photos, man that's a bunch of snaps since January of '22. I must not have enough to keep me busy.
Total clean out loss. Too bad, I feel there were some pretty good instructional threads rendered from many. I definitely don't have the time to restructure.

Bummer. That sucks. ISP wasn't contracted to run backups?

They were. I thought. I guess not.

Also, my configuration is SUPPOSED to store attachments in the database, which is backed up by me weekly. Turns out it isn't storing them in the database. That's why I didn't have a better backup myself.

Ouch...double whammy. Just put a note on my to do list to go run a test recovery of my local backups.
