i pod hook up

i just bought a 2003 SAN TE. there is a factory clarion head unit in the glove box and a remote on the dash. my question is what are others doing to be able to hook up their mp3 players. Also is there a head unit that is compatable with the remote on the dash that has a mp3 accessory jack on it.

i have one of those in my car but would rather have a direct hook up where i could use my controls on my ipod. plus it doesn't sound as good as I would like

I use direct connection to my clarion xmd3. The ipod adapter is the Clarion EA 1251. Its not perfect, but the output is cleaner compared to the RF / FM type integration.

Install manual of the EA 1251 is below. It has its limitations, but like my post above, its much better than the FM type connection.

While the HK unit is FM, they provide a cable that goes direct from the unit to the brain, so it is not going over the airwaves per sé. I questioned my sound a bit, as well. You need to set the EQ settings on the iPod back to "none" and use your unit to make and EQ adjustments. After that, I never had any issues about how it sounded.
Secondly, it charges whenever hooked up, so there is never a dead battery. I rarely take mine out of my boat all summer. Lastly, I just put my iPod under the dashpod and never have to dig around for it or have a cable hanging anywhere.
Just my two cents, I like them a lot. Way better than the other transmitter style units.

I just bought a 211. It has inputs in the glove box. For Christmas I got a Timex Ironman ipod watch/control. You plug a thing in the bottom of your ipod. The boat connects to the output of the ipod and you can control volume and track from your watch. I have not tried it in the boat yet but that is the theory.

Second the Harmon Kardon. The interface is exactly what your ipod is, charges while underway, and is a super clean install. Plus it's cheap, you can likely get them off of eBay for ~$30 now (I don't know if they're refurbed, but that's a DEAL!).
