ipod hookup on XMD1 - another way?

Has anyone tried this as a way to connect the ipod to the XMD1. The 13 pin din appears to match the one on the back of the Clarion.

If this works, I like it a lot since it charges and plays from a single connection. I bought one and am going to give it a try.

a few months ago there was a post about this. check the archives. there is a way to make a cable to work w/ an IPOD. however, i think a few people fried their units trying it though. i just went on ebay and bought a refurbished clarion CDM4 (has an ipod IN) for $79 and the trim piece (CM-adap-R) for like $20 and it plugged right in and plays. it was installed in less than 10 minutes.

Are you talking about this thread? I don't know of anyone who has damaged a unit using this method, and I can say from experience that this is the best way to connect an iPod to an XMD-1. It worked very well in my '03 210.

I am aware of the thread you linked to, Jeff, and have the materials to make that connector, but I found this last night and thought I'd give it a try first.

My problem with the Peripheral adapter I linked to above is getting it long enough to reach around to the dash so that the driver can control the ipod. I have a 16 foot 13 pin din cable ordered (with male connections on both ends) but I'm having trouble finding a female to female 13 pin din adapter to connect the extension cable to the Peripheral Adapter.

The only problem I have with converting to a CMD4 or newer is that the remotes on the dash don't work with my existing XMD-1 remote. I'd have to get into reworking the trim bezel to accomodate the oval shaped remote and that's just alot of hassle.

my remote on the dash from the XMD1 works w/ my new CDM4. not to mention i jsut sold my XMD1 on ebay and got $35 for it. making my upgrade even cheaper.

Wow, I had read somewhere that the dash remote for the XMD1 was not fully functional with the CMD4, I'm glad to hear it works - that gives me another option.

I ended up buying an extension cable from Crutchfield that has a male 13 pin din on one end and a female 13 pin din on the other end. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...mp;i=113CAC2EX

That was the only way I could figure out how to get it to reach all the way around to the dash. I also ordered another cable from crutchfield - http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...mp;i=127ICKENW

I'm hoping that by connecting these two together I've got enough length to get to the dash. My boat is about an hour and a half away right now so I'm not sure when I'll get to test it, but I'll post back and let everyone know how it turns out.

If that doesn't work, I'll probably just make the cable that Jeff linked to.

UPDATE - my cables didn't work. The XMD1 wouldn't go to accs when the ipod was connected. I'll make the custom cable now.

Aren't the CMD4's only compatible with the older style remotes (the ones with no digital readouts?)

No, that's not right. I had a CMD4a last year, and the remote had the digital display.

yep, the cmd4 will work just fine with the cmrc1 remotes

What airhuck is saying is that the M101RCS remote (XMD1 remote) will work with the CMD4 - and that is new to me. I always thought that this remote would not be fully functional - maybe it would give you volume control but that's it. I've apparently been misinformed.
