    2000 super sport stereo upgrades

I have a 2000 ss with the python. The engine rocks but not the stereo. I installed a Rock Fos amp and upgraded the speakers with little benefit. It seems really hard to get bass out it. I'm upgrading to a Clarion m475 stereo and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the self powered subwoofers, Clarion and some others make.

    Are they worth the money?

Well it all depends on what you want. What type of music you listen to? Budget? Most of the self powered subs sound ok in a car but in a open air boat the fall short. In my 00 SAN (same boat) I had 2 15's in the rear and it sounded great, but I'm the type of person that likes to "feel" the music ( http://www.planetnautique.com/index....;p=83067#83067). 1 10 or 12 under the drivers pod will sound good you just need to build a box and get a 500-600 watt amp for it. We listen primarily to rock/alternative. I don't necessarily need to feel it, but I do want to hear it. Where did you mount you 15's in you SAN? the rear of my boat is packed with python.

i made boxes to set ontop of the tanks. They were molded to the back of the boat, where it curves. The engines are the same size just different displacemants.

I have a Bazooka tube with a small amp, I'm a rock and roll and jamb grass kind of guy and it is fine for what we are listening to. I also dont have to have extra batteries, and didnt have to have a big budget. It sounds much better than when it was just the factory system. Its located under the observers seat and doesnt take up much room.

How much power does your amp put out? I've been reading about the battery issue and it is somewhat concerning. That is why I was looking at the self-powered amps

I had a 99 Pro Air and had a self powering bass tube behind the driver's kick board. I thought it sounded pretty good. Not going to rattle everything loose in your boat but definately gave the music a better full sound. I was like you didn't want to spend a ton of cash on the stereo but wanted somethin a bit more than the stock stereo. i also replaced the interior speakers with polk momo's and put a clarion amp on them. Sounded pretty good to me.

I was thinking about mounting on the front side of the drivers kick board. Its where I have my amp mounted and there is room. I can't mount on the underside of my observers seat. We throw so much crap under there I'm afraid it will get trashed.

I have an Alpine PDX 4.150 amp, driving 2 Boss B62 tower speakers and a single 15inch sub under the spotter seat. It sounds fine. Loud enough for my neighbors on the lake certainly. I have a two battery setup, but usually only have one switched on in case it drains too much. That has never happened.

You guys with the bass tubes. Did you have them pointed at the driver or at the nose. I have mine pointed at the nose because I figured it wouldn't make a difference and might benefit from the reflective surface, but now I'm wondering.
