I am looking at installing the Polk 650's in my 2000 SN. Can I simply cut out the netting once the speakers are removed, or will I also need to remove the piping surround. Will the Polks mount in a similar way to the Clarions. The Clarions are sitting in a plastic cone at the back. Do the Polk mount from the front . I like the looks of the Polk surrounds v the netting covering the Clarions. I am a bit scared of removing the stock surround in case I screw up my upholstery. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure how it works on a 2000 model, but for 2003 model take a look at this link for some pictures on how my bow speakers were installed. http://www.planetnautique.com/index....pic&t=8091
The cloth covers are screwed in on the sides-you can see the screws in one of the pictures - and you have to get a screwdriver to remove the screws and then you can pull the covers - piping and all - to get to the speaker. Only the bow speakers are mounted from behind as shown in the pics, the rest can be removed from the front side - hope that helps.

just remove the drivers panel. take the throttle off and then its a few screws. not very hard. then you can get to the back of the speaker. just did all mine in my 2001 Super Sport about 2 months ago. i left the netting. call me crazy but i think it looks more finished.

I mounted my DB 651s on the outside for a more updated look and, supposedly, a bit better sound. I left the pvc in there and just maid a criss cross cut on the grill cloth. Then, it was just a matter of screwing them in and hooking up the speaker wire. Easy as that.
I checked the size on the kick plate first since it was the easiest part to remove and look over.1998 Ski Nautique (Red/Silver Cloud), GT-40, Perfect Pass Stargazer 8.0z (Zbox), Acme #422, Tunable Rudder.

Yes, when I say "kick plate," I mean the board in front of the driver's feet that separates the footwell from the under bow storage compartment (with the speaker on it).
On all the speakers, I simply cut an "X" in the netting and mouted the speaker top side. I left the vinyl piping in place. I don't have any pictures at the moment, but the piping is not visible with the grills in place. I'm still waiting for my matching grills for the rer speakers. The previous owner installed component polk db 6500s (or so I thought) in the rear, but they turned out to be 5.25" speakers. I've got some MOMO grills on them at the moment. I'll try to shoot some pictures of the 651's today.1998 Ski Nautique (Red/Silver Cloud), GT-40, Perfect Pass Stargazer 8.0z (Zbox), Acme #422, Tunable Rudder.

Okay, I snapped a picture on my way out the door this morning. Sorry for the bad quality (phone picture). I have some momo grills on loan that I'm using for the rear speakers until my matching grills come in and I have pretty much decided that I like the DB grills better.
