    Tower speaker install for newbee

We just received our 2007 SV211 Team and need help with tower speakers. Boat has factory setup with Clairon amp and Polk sub. Boat has rear and bow speakers and the tower is already wired for speakers. I don't want to blow people away with sound but would like to hear the music while floating in the water around the boat. I like the idea of speakers at both ends of the cans to hear in front and rear of boat. I have looked at alot of speakers on ebay and don't know what will work best. Our local audio store wanted to get us the infinity set with the amp I think it is a 6100. I am not sure if they know what they are doing or not, they have only done one boat. I am just looking for a good system I can hear while outside the boat (not necessarily while it is running and pulling a skier or boarder) HELP ME Please. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I also have a limit budget so absolute top of the line is out.

OK first what kind of budget are we talking about here?? You will need a amp to push them. There are alot of routes to take. The ones with the speakers front and rear are ok. One thing to think about is towing down the road, the front facing speakers will be seeing 70+ mph winds, rain ( if caught in a rain storm while towing) and lots of BUGS to clean out.

I am not worried about towing. We live on the water and the ramp is 1000 ft from our house, so towing is not an issue. Budget is less than $1000, perferably around $500. I would like to keep it as reasonable as possible.

i picked up a lightly used Infinity6100 on ebay for $450. Speakers can rotate so no need for front firing.. The 6100 package comes w/ amp, speakers w/ tower mounts, wire loom and mic. I wouldnt have paid $1000 for it, but for less than half it works well for me. Install was pretty simple, just a few hours as i had to drill tower and run wires.

Check out this link. The bazooka tower speakers are really affordable and have a great sound. You can get them in white, black, 6", or 8". A good friend of mine had the 8" tubbies on his X2 and they sounded great. They also make them with front and rear firing speakers now. If my boat hadn't come with tower speakers I would have definately bought the bazookas. You can also pick up a good used JL audio 300/2 or 300/4 on ebay very reasonable. I have a JL 300/4 running my four tower speakers. PM me if you have any questions or if I can help out in any other way.

Most tower speakers pointing forward are prone to failure resulting to being exposed to air pressure and debris while towing, not to mention being annoying when abused. That said my wetsounds are loud enough to bounce the sound off the opposite shore back to the front of the boat when in a cove, no need for rear facing speakers to annoy the whole cove with my choice in music...

You probably don't want a johnny come lately but if you are going to sped $500 then spend the $1000 and put Wetsounds Pro 80's. Some may taught these for the volume but I will tell you that the fact that they are horn loaded allows them to be played at a lower volume and still have a wide dispersion across both sides of the wake at lower volumes than other speakers require.

I am driving a pair with a used Cadance amp that I picked up on ebay for an additional $150.

For the day I turned the power on I have never been disapointed.
