Which OHMS should I go for on a Kicker sub

I have an 05 216TE with the 2 factory clarion amps. I am considering getting a 10" L7 Kicker sub and placing it at the driver's footboard. My questions are 1. what ohm rating do I need for the factory clarion amp and what is the difference between 2 & 4 ohms. 2. Any recommendations on a box behind the footboard. I would like to go fiberglass or something "non wood" due to water etc.

Are you going to add the extra sub in addition to your factory sub? Or are you taking out the old one (or was it not there in the first place)? I'm a little confused on that to really give you a good answer.

Again, depending on your setup the ohms/amp question isn't easy to answer - but look here and read this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-e5cXR84...amp;page=all#5

The L7 is a 4ohm sub, but if you wanted the addition to be worth it you're likely going to want to add a dedicated sub amp (a Kicker 600.1 would work just fine).

For the box, use a sealed box exactly as Kicker says to. The Solo Baric series are designed for small sealed boxes. And in all honesty, just build the box out of 3/4" MDF and seal it with paint - fiberglass is a pain to work with in a boat, especially if you aren't trying to win any beauty contests (the box is hidden anyway and will stay pretty dry under the dash). The money that you will save building the box out of MDF can easily go towards buying a dedicated sub amp (you'll get a much better performing sub, and odds are, if you connected it up to the multichannel you won't be happy with it and end up buying the sub amp anyway).

L7 subs are dual voice coil - they can be wired to 1 or 4 ohms with the dual 2 and they can be wired to 2 or 8 with the dual 4 - you will have nothing but problems adding a L7 to the factory amps - the 10" L7 subs are 600 watts rms - you need to get a kicker 600.1 as mentioned previously if still available or look at the 750.1 - buy the dual 4 voice coil sub and wire it to 2 ohms - build the box out of mdf as mentioned and follow the specs at kicker - I believe they spec 1 cubic foot max sealed for the L7 10

I am replacing the stock white fiberglass tube under the passenger seat, not adding.

the clarion amp is supplying 230 watts to the sub in the configuration it was wired from the factory ( 2 channels bridged ) you need far more power to drive a solobaric than the clarion can produce - purchase a mono amp as suggested to fit the sub and move the two bow speakers to the factory 480 clarion amp - currently they should be connected to the head unit

I agree you sure want a dedicated amp to push the L7. I have 4 l712's all dual 4ohm so that my amp see's a 2 ohm at 2588 watts. With the dual voice coils you can wire them how ever you want.

I have two 4-Ohm 10L5s dual voice coil wired in parallel in a custom sealed enclosure behind the driver's seat. I have a ZX750.1 pushing them and they sound great. The enclosure also serves as extra seating.

Just for information purposes you have a one ohm load on an amp that is not stable or rated for one ohm
(dual 4ohm sub wired parallel = 2 ohms) two of these wired parallel would be a one ohm load

My bad...they are DVC 2-ohm 10L5s wired in series/parallel. You are correct...that would be bad news as I posted earlier. Good catch. It's been a long day here at the office =)
