Yeah, I've noticed that through the years... I could put all my dream components in a stereo system and still find something wrong with it that I would want to tweak... it's just the way it rolls, I suppose...

i had all the speakers replaced in my mc recently and they didnt fuse the amps(potential fire) and had them wired all messed up. that was the final mistake that led me to get a 210
Who is "they" - I would be pretty upset if "they" did not follow some sort of electrical standard ( i.e. protect the wire) that is the reason for the fuse directly after the battery.

        ARGH!!!
I'm stilll having this ground issue. Tried grounding the radio to the battery directly, tried moving the speaker wires away from the amp power wires, Everything I could think of. any other advice? Travis

          Ground Distribution Blocks

I have had issues before with grounding and it's a PIA. I am curious what people think about having a distribution block that is grounded either directly to the battery or run it all the way to where the battery grounds (engine area)? I was thinking of putting a block where I can run one ground all the way back and then ground the amps directly to the block - has anyone used these?

            RE: Ground Distribution Blocks

yeah, use distribution blocks all the time. as long as you use the proper sized wiring, they'll work great. just keep in mind that long runs will require a larger wire.

              RE: Ground Distribution Blocks

Well I've got some distribution blocks myself, one for the power and one for the ground. I'll give them a whirl tonight and I aslo got a noise suppresor from PAC, so I'll use that if the distro blocks rhythm method (don't work, or aren't effective) and I'll report back tomorrow!!!

What kind of engine noise are you getting? Is it a high pitch squealing or static as if you are tuning into a bad radio station? Or both? Engine on gives squealing, engine off gives static and popping? Try to change your ground over to the engine block. I had a similar problem in my system. Ran two grounds from one amp, one to the battery and the other to the engine block, after that the sound came out crystal clear. Don't ask me why it works, I have no idea...but it did. If you're still having problems after that, swap your RCA cables into different outputs off the deck (if you're running RCAS to the amp). I had two Pioneer decks crap out on me with bad internal grounds on one of the sets of RCAS, talk about chasing a problem for days....boat got a Kenwood this year and so far zero problems.

they is bay area water sports in land o lakes, fl. they kept spouting off about 100%cis rating and stuff like that. i ended up reporting them to the bbb. and am awaiting a response. they tried to act like they did me this huge favor doing the stereo work and i even asked if i should take it to my car place instead, but i was getting it serviced anyway so i let them do it. long story short, let boat folks do boat stuff and stereo folks do stereo stuff. i mean it's a sign they dont care about good systems the way they come amped from the factory.

Finally got the noise figured out. I ran distrobution blocks for power and ground, but that didn't solve it, so I got a pac line filter and that solved the problem. thanks for all the advice!!! I hate to put a bandaid on the real issue, but I guess I'm just not an engineer... That's what I get for being a banker!
