    tower speaker advice

i know that i should put this in the stereo section, but i figured it would get more responses in a short time in this section

im ready to do a tower speaker upgrade with over night shipping and get it all fixed up for memorial day weekend--

i curently have a liquid loud box with 4 6x9s---it was on the boat allready--but it dont quite cut it compared to other boats i have owned

i have had cheap speaker in the past and the rider could hear them just fine--

i have been wanting to put a pair of wetsonds pro80s because obviously eveyone says they are the best

what other choices do i have---i want the most bang for the buck--i have 2 kicker amps so powering them is not a problem

i want some crisp tunes to ride to----

i will be loosing my light since they are intergrated to my current system---so if i can shave some dough on the speakers i can get some more lights too

    RE: tower speaker advice

I think Wetsounds, NVS and DBOT5 are all pretty much in the same category as far as top of the line horn compression loaded driver tower speakers go. If you want loud you cant go wrong with any of the above mentioned brands. Best of luck with the install....you have a short deadline!!

i would call skylon and see if they have any defcon 4's left over. they sold 2 pair's recently on ebay for a measly $400.. awesome deal imo (they smoke the pro 80's).

you may want to consider coaxial hlcd's (listen before you buy). they are painfully "bright" in the boat cabin behind where they are mounted due the compromised horn body used vs a seperate horn body. a seperate horn body has a much better dispersion pattern then a coaxial..

      hope that helps..

Opinions are like... well you know the story.

In my group of riders we have two guys running Skylon (Deafcons and Rubi's), three guys running NVS, and three guys running Wetsounds. Unanimously the Skylon guys in my group say "never again" to a Skylon speaker. The NVS guys are very happy and the Wetsounds guys are also happy.

The Pro-80's are great if you want something compact and loud but they are not as full as a pair of Pro 485's like mine. I would put the new Deviants are also very nice. If I were starting over it would be a tough call between a pair of 485's and a pair of Deviants.

like i mentioned earlier i have had cheap stuff before and the were fine---

i like the look of the MTX and they are only 250$! i could do 4 of them for less that a pair of WS or NVS

It all comes down to individual preference - I had liquid audio speakers some time ago and they fell apart after a couple of months - then purchased the kicker single speaker cans with separate tweeter, they were nice but nothing compared to the NVS Entity's - I am not sure about wetsounds but Duane at NVS only has limited sets of speakers at any given time therefore you should be ordering ASAP whichever you chose

              Were your other boats I/O's?

I find it impossible to hear car speakers behind inboard boats. My guess it that your issue has more to do with a different boat than it does with the speakers.

best bang for buck is the new kicker tower speakers that have horns. they are up on kickers site right now and you can probably get them pretty easily. and that will go nicely with your kicker amps.

That is surprising that you had not trouble hearing car speakers while boarding behind a Malibu and a M/C...

i had great luck with my previos speakers---my mastercraft had those old rectangle mtx water proof speakers and it jammed---my BU had some japanese cans and they sounded great

gonna pick my boat up in a few hours from Scream Marine in dallas---put a pair of pro60s----plenty good fo rme---the 80s seem too big for the tower

Currently at this point you should have made your decision - opinions are going to vary widely on tower speaker decisions - it would seem that those recommending anything other than NVS or Wetsounds have never had the opportunity to hear them - nothing "cheap" or "car speaker can" will come close to the clarity and sound you will get out of the NVS or Wetsounds - I would like to board behind a boat with less than NVS or Wetsounds - It just will not compare!
