    amp setting question

I have a couple quick questions about my amp settings.

    Currently installed:

    Deck Alpine 7949
    Amp #1 Alpine PDX 4.150
Tower Sp Boss B62 (MB Quart 6.5) on front channel
    Sub don't remember

    adding

Alpine PDX 4.100 for my internal speakers. These are nothing special at the moment, stock, and just trying to get them running for the moment. I will upgrade them at some point.

    My two speaker questions are:

on my orig setup, should I have the filter set to HP for mid/tweeter only on the tower speakers or set to off for full range?

For the cockpit speakers on the new, second amp, same question. This will be independent off the rear channels, so I can kill the tower speakers with the fader at night, but still listen to music at a decent volume.

    And a fuse question:

I have a large fuse from the Monster 4AWG wire kit I put in a few years ago at the battery. In order to hook up the second amp, I am planning on taking the original power cable from #1, running it to a distribution block (same for ground cable) Can I just leave the original fuse and run power straight from the dist block and rely on that original fuse, without adding any? I assume so, but please correct me if I am wrong on this point.

Lastly, is there any problem simply jumping the remote power on wire from Amp 1 to Amp 2 ?

    thank for your help.

    RE: amp setting question

The #4 wire you have is sufficient to run the two small amps - you need to determine the fuse size that you have currently. You should run at least a 60amp fuse to power the two amps. Jumping the 12v remote turn on will not cause any problems. I'm not familiar with the alpine deck but if you run in full range mode you will need to take away some of the bass going to the speakers.

Because you have a sub to handle the lows, use the HP filter on both and set the crossover @ 80 hz on the interior, and around 60 hz on the tower. (not sure what the range is on those amps). Your speakers will sound much better if they are not having to produce lows.

        Hey there...

My .02.. I would set the crossover's at 100hz for those 6.5's. Even though MB states that most of their 6.5's can go to 40 hz I would set it higher than that and let the sub pick up the 100hz and below. Just how I run mine and I like the sound. Seems if I get too much low frequency the speaker is trying to do a job at which it's just not efficient. I have my remote jumped and it works great, although I'll have a new amp in a few days and won't have to worry about that!!!

Since crossovers do not cut-off the low frequencies, they taper them off I run the tower/boat setpoint up around 100hz. This still allows some low frequencies to be produced from those speakers but at safe power levels to keep the speaker cones from over excursing. I run a WS-420 EQ that allows me to vary my sub crossover point, I vary it between 60hz and 100hz depending on listening levels and music content.

Make sure your ground wire is also adequately sized, most automotive wiring harnesses use undersized short ground wires, your ground should also be #4 and go back to the battery (alternatively the engine block, but I prefer the battery).
