    replacement speakers for 2000 SAN

I recently added a 5 channel amp, sub, and replaced the head unit in my 2000 SAN. I left the stock Clarions for now and to my surprise, they sounded better than I expected, but still not what I would call great clear sound.

If I upgrade the four 6.5" speakers I was thinking about the polk momos or the wet sounds. If anyone had the stock speakers and upgraded and noticed considerably better sound, please let me know. The last thing I want to do is spend the time and money and end up with about what I had.

The current speakers I believe are rear mounted inside of the pvc can with the mesh fabric over the speaker face. Is it easy to remove and install new speakers in this setup? I know the speaker by the drivers knee will be a chore, but what about the other 3.

Any thoughts or speakers recommendations would be appreciated!

RE: replacement speakers for 2000 SAN

I did this in my 00 a year or two ago. You have to get behind the gunnal walls and unbolt the seat backs to gain access to the cans. to get to the driver side one you have to remove the steering wheel, dash cover, throttle handle, and driver seat to make more room to remove side panel. If you remove all the seat bottoms including the plastic bases it is much easier. I used kicker marine coaxial 6.5's. I can't remember if they were 2 or 3 way speakers but they sounded very nice compaired to the old clarion. I bought mine from a local kicker dealer called discount audio in louisville KY. You will not need speaker grills because of the splication and he had a bulk shipment of these that he got without grills. I paid 25 a pair for them. He may still have some that he would sell you at a rock bottom price just to get rid of them. Their number is 502 451 9134 good luck

I replaced my stock speakers with Diamond Audio Hex series 6.5" and built, sealed boxes out of marine board to fit behind the stock opening. They look stock and sound better than anything I have heard, yet. I am running an Alpine PDX 150.4 to them. I highly recomend the Diamond Audio speakers, and I saw them on Ebay for dirt cheap.
