RE: Finally finished my install take a look

the remote wire is the on switch for you amps you can just spit it three ways it should not cause a problem or you can get some help setting up relays. the rca issue is not that hard either since our amps dont have rca outputs you need Y-spliters at the deck i think you will need two sets but i can remember if the deck has a sub output if it does not then you need three.

travis was correct i used 0/1 form the batteries to the dist and then 4 gauge straight from their website super cheap http://www.knukonceptz.com/

for the rcas on my boat i ran a single rca from the deck to the Eq and Y spliters at the eq not the output of the amp, i find the amp outputs dont give a very high voltage signal so it sounds muffled compared to the other speakers and i could not find Y-spliters that matched my RCA so i spent the extra cash to make the install look super clean.

By remote wire I assume you mean the remote power wire? Does it connect right in between your power and ground? If so, that's what tells the amp to turn on. it gets power from your head unit and when 12v is flowing from the headunit, then it powers on your amp. otherwise your amp is always on and will drain your battery. It's pretty important. You can definately jump that from amp to amp. I don't believe the 480's have RCA outputs on them. If you don't have three sets of RCA's from the headunit, then you will need to use RCA splitter's. Get the gold connectors, they aren't much more and they're worth it.
Thanks there CAM003 - looks like I've got me old Eagle Eye back!!! On my 2001 I ran one RCA to a PAC LC1, and then split from there to the two other amps. That way I have volume control at the helm! (What a concept!!!) Drilled through the dash right above the horn and inserted the PAC. It works swimmingly! So I have two sets of Y Splitters on mine, which isn't ideal, or even close to it, but that's the only way I could do it with only one volume control.

RE: Finally finished my install take a look

Thanks for the info. Cam003 your impressive install inspired me, except I'll have do mine in red to match my boat. However, I'm finding out that I don't think I can run my tower speakers bridged off of the 480. Bridged appears to be only 4 ohm stable from the writing near the terminal blocks, and I believe that a pair of 4 ohm (each) Polk MM651UMs in a tower pair (parallel?) will only be a 2 ohm load correct? What's the risk? Any suggestions?

I'm almost positive that Clarion can run 2 ohms stable. In fact I am sure. You can run your tower speakers bridged off of the Clarion. It would be a two Ohm load, which will be fine.

            emagine,

Please don’t run the 480 bridged into 2-ohms.

Either 2-ohms stereo or 4-ohms bridged, but nothing less on this particular amplifier.

You can series the two pair of tower speakers into 8-ohms per channel and bridge the amplifier or run another four conductors up the tower and run 4-ohms times four channels. Or, you can parallel each pair and run 2-ohms stereo using two channels only.

David - that's what I meant... And I should have been more specific. Run the tower speakers in parallel to two of the channels, resulting in a two ohm load. I was quick to type there, sorry boys.

Which configuration will sound the best? I'm assuming four conductors to the tower with one speaker per channel getting 80 watts each?

RE: Finally finished my install take a look

What does the 'remote' connection/wire do? I have two Clarion APX480 and one APX280. I am running boat speakers off of three channels on one 480. I was planning to run one stock Polk/Momo sub off of the 280 bridged. I was planning to run two pairs of Polk MM651UM tower speakers off of two bridged channels on the other 480. How would I hook these up with the RCAs and remote wire from an XMD3 head unit like Cam003's setup?
OK - we covered the remote connection and that SHOULD be connected to the blue and white wire from the wiring harness on the back of your stereo. Hook up a good wire to that 12 or 14 gauge, and run that wire long enough for your first amp. Then cut another run of wire, and splice them togther, and screw into the remote power spot, then splice that jumper wire with another one, and do the same thing for amps 2 and three. I think you get what I'm saying here. Run RCA's out and use y splitters.
for the amp I would run 4 sets of wire up to the tower speakers and just connect them up simply. So positive and negative from speaker 1 to positive and negative for speaker two. Put amp in the HP mode, with the x10 button poking out, you can run 4 channel stereo, but you can play with that switch and see what gives you the best output since we're not really concerned with stereo imaging on a tower, set your gains to around 80 HRZ, (you can go to 60, or even 40, but you'll lose efficiency) you'll probably have to turn the amp gain most of the way up, and you can play with the bass extender to see what works well. You can probably turn the bass extender up a little more if you set your frequency at 80, as opposed to 60 or 40. I think you'll get good results at 80 though. Let me know how it turns out and if you have any other questions.

I"m sorry, in my post above I was referring to wiring the four tower speakers to the four channel amp. I meant to say pos and neg from speaker one to pos and neg from channel one. Pos and neg from speaker two to pos and neg for channel two. etc.

sorry about that. I was thinking faster than I was typing.

Nice install, curious how you made the mounting board for the amps and how you attached that to the side of the boat. That would work good in my 95 sport but just not sure how everyone is mounting the mounting boards to the hull. Thanks

Guys - it is an EIGHT YEAR OLD thread. Probably doesn't even have the boat anymore.

Well yes I do still have the boat, and I used the factory mounting board with the correct size screws to attach the board. I am currently redoing this install and using stand-offs attached to the wall with fiber glass to attach the new board will upload new pics when complete.
