    Help - Audio Install

Audio amateur installer needs help. Correctly wired a Sony cdx-m10 into boat. unit powered up w/no faults or error msgs on unit. played radio about 1 minute. turned volume up and as volume was turning up cd unit power went out. troubleshooting revealed 10v fuse on back of cd unit is good. boat side is good. Doublechecked all the wiring and unit won't power up at all. Other info - noticed cd unit wiring is a smaller gauge than the boat side and i believe there is a fuse installed on the boat side hot wire (if it looks like a 2 to 2.5 inch lump in the python (and professionally installed/shrink wrapped)... but other than that am stumped. I admit I just twisted wires together and meticulously wrapped with elec tape and didn't crimp, but with everything tie wrapped in bundles, thought it would be no problem... Old stereo unit (sony tape - probably 1980s) powered up and played at any volume so I know things were good up until this install...
Boat is an 88 SN2001... Thx in advance...

Usually head units require a 12v constant and a switched 12v - Check to verify that you have a constant 12v and the 12v switch is actually working.

Wired to the acc switch and that switch is depressed an illuminated. still wont power up.

Forgot to mention - cd unit came w/matching Sony speakers "as a pkg." No subs or preamps or remotes with it. simple - one unit two speakers. I know, I know, cheap speakers, but I will never listen to it with the engine running (love that dual exhaust) anyway.

I would verify with a volt meter. You should have two wires with 12v when everything is on. If the unit worked and no fuses are blown I would look into getting another head unit.

My guess is that you may have a blown inline fuse somewhere upstream. Did you check your power with a test light? The new unit draws more current so the old small fuse would have blown when you turned it up.

Thx for the assist, Mikeski - that was it. Replaced inline fuses on both the hot and ignition wire, mounted it in the glove box, and laced it all up. Works like a champ.
