Head unit suggestions for 99 Pro Air

Any suggestions for a head unit on our '99 Pro Air? The head unit is in the dash on the right side of the steering wheel. It is mounted behind a "splash" door which rolls down and latches. It looks like a single DIN chassis, much like the standard marine units I see around.

Has anyone changed the splash door for a newer Clarion XMD* model? Is it worth the extra $ to get that type of chassis/head unit?

I would like to get a Sirus ready receiver, Cd/mp3/ipod hookup, maybe a wired remote.

    thanks,
    Jack

RE: Head unit suggestions for 99 Pro Air

I just helped a buddy put a new CMD 5 in his 99 Pro Air. We took out the factory deck and splash cover and installed the deck in that location. You will need to get an adapter plate that Clarion sells to mount it in the factory location because the hole is much larger. The adapter plate is a XMD to CMD converter. Having the new deck is worth it just for the ipod hookup.

I just had a Clarion M475 single DIN installed a few weeks ago in my 99 Air. Works fine. Does require the purchase of an additional IPOD adapter cable though, adding to the cost if you use an IPOD.

            Go with the new Alpine

            GET THE NEW APLINE!!!!!
I had the CMD5 and upgraded to the Alpine, much easier to control, quick scan the IPOD from the head unit. I also got the options RF remotes that are waterproof; I like them since I can operate the head unit form my dock. The Alpine has Amps outputs for from rear and a sub. The Sirius operates seamlessly and you can also plug in a USB memory stick.

Check out the “speakers covers” thread and you can see the new Alpine installed, page thru and I posted photos of the Sirius adapter.

I love my new Alpine 9886, it has the 4volt preouts and controls about every media possible.

Yea Alpine just did a number on the Marine market with the 9866, its definatly worth a look when you upgrade. I like the CMD5 but I love my Alpine............Check out the "speaker covers" thread for my install

Does anybody make a replacement for a 02 W/remote? I can modify the hole in the
dash, but I can't find anything close.
