I'm not so sure Tim answered my original question? So the speakers are waterproof, but the horn drivers are not? Would damaged horn drivers cause the hissing noise?

I guess you need to be more specific on what sound you are hearing. If it is a hiss and coming out of all the speakers. It is most likely not a damaged driver.
If it was one driver out of them, maybe. But if you are hearing the same sound out of both speakers and all the drivers. It is not the speakers, it would be a source component. With a horn speaker. You will hear hiss and noise more and amplified more becuase the compression speaker is so effcient. So you may have to cover the horn and hold you ear very close to the mid bass driver to see if it is doing it as well.
Usually a damaged driver would crakle or not play. Not hiss. That is a signal issue.
The better choice of words is water resistant. The horn is a titanium driver and built for marine. So moisture and water spray will not harm it. BUT, you do not want to hose your speakers off and spray water down into the horn. And it is wise to use covers to protect your investment if you leave them outside.

Sorry Flaudia,
I probably should not have included the W7 in that list of efficient subs, my mistake.
W7's are great but they are very hungry for power and quickly succeptible to heat related failure. I would say guys with properly powered W7's replace them fairly often, more often that I can accept.
Do the tower speakers produce hiss when you use the direct in on the EQ?

I don't know what you mean by "direct in"? When I connected the tower speakers directly to the HU bypassing the EQ, I had no hiss at all...as expected of course.

flaudia402,
You may be correct that the W7 is not the optimum load for your monoblock and your amp may be light for this particular sub. The regulated JL 1000/1 delivers full, consistent power into loads from 1.5 to 4 ohms. Also, the Boston Acoustics GT-28 bridged would work. Or, upgrading to the next larger Kicker would help
But, a bigger issue is that the W7 needs to be in a ported box whenever used in a boat. In this case the difference in output between sealed and ported is gigantic. Until you fix this more power isn’t enough.
