Where to Mount 12" in SAN

My bro in law just gave me a Punch 500Watt amp and a Punch 12" sub. I dont know jack about speakers. Where should I mount this thing? Or should I even use it? Should I build a ported box or a sealed box and how many cubic feet of air does it need. The amp says. bd500.1 on it. I am guessing this is the model number. The sub says what appears to be Punch HX2 not sure about the letters.. Kinda strange lettering. It says 1000 watt max power on the back and it says Dual 4 ohms on it. He had it in his truck and sold the truck. I think its about a year to a year and a half old. This will be going in a 2000 SAN. I already have a 10" sub under the observers seat but I can remove it if that needs to be done. Thanks for your help..

Hey crotchrocket. there's another thread on this from a little while back (http://www.planetnautique.com/index....topic&t=58). Basically, there aren't a ton of options for sub locations in a SAN so you might have to get a little creative.

I didn't want to lose floor space or the storage under the flip up seat so I put mine here on my 2000 SAN. The box goes back to the open bow and sits on a platform so all the hoses and cables can still go under the box and the ski locker can still open all of the way. I then cut the stock panel to fit around it. I need to get a grill so I don't kick the speaker while driving. It's not bling bling but it gets the job done. I would like to thank Grant for his excellent page and tips on everything from box building to mounting the amps.

Hey Darin, where did you put your amp(s) and is that a free air, ported or sealed box behind that 12? I'm in the process of replacing my piece of crap Kicker 700.5 with a couple amps and am looking to mount them to a board next to the observer seat. I'm too lazy to rip the carpet and glue the sucker in, though. Looking for a decent way to secure the mounting board under the gunnel.

I'd love to see more pix if you have them.

I cut the carpet and glued the boards to the hull. I left the sound stuff there and just glued over it with liquid nails. It was the easiest part. Just make sure to have something to hold the boards up over night so the glue can set. I only have pics of after everything is put back together. Hard to see the old 4 channel alpine and a kicker zr360 for the sub, but that's the idea.

            It's a sealed box, 1.125 ft^3 inside.
