    Subwoofer enclosure measurement help

I am going to start building a custom box when the boat goes into storage for the winter and I am not sure how to accurately measure the dimensions for building a sub box. My plan is to build a sealed rectangular/cube box enclosure. I havent picked a sub at this point. Lets say for example that the sub spec is for a 2.25cu ft enclosure, taking the measurements 16x16x20 for the outside of the material. If I subtract 3/4 in for the thickness of the material that would give me an interior volume of 2.25cu ft. My question is when performing this calculation do you also have to factor in the size of the basket and magnet on the subwoofer and subtract this from the 2.25 calculated volume to arrive at the true interior airspace?? Or do you just use the calculated volume of the interior of the box?

    Thanks for the help!

    RE: Subwoofer enclosure measurement help

    crowland,

It varies by brand. Some driver manufacturers provide specifications for the net internal volume which considers the driver’s displacement (JL Audio for example) while others are based on the gross internal volume without driver displacement.

We use a top notch computer program that accurately plots the enclosure based on the Thiele-Small parameters.

We have a dedicated marine facility in your market if we can help.
