    Wetsounds tower set up

Please give me feedback on the Wetsounds setups I'm considering.

I have an 08 210 with a Titan tower and an over-the-tower bimini. I'd like to preserve as much headroom as possible so I can stand up under the tower.

That rules out both single and double P485 speakers and leaves me with Pro80s, Pro60s, and MB8s.

I've ridden behind a single P485 and it was great. I've also ridden behind a single pair Pro60 and it was good but not as good as the single P485 (...it could be the P60 wasn't getting enough power).

Here are a few set ups I think might work:

    1. One pair Pro80, or

    2. Two pairs Pro 80, or

    3. One pair Pro80 and One pair Pro60

    4. One pair Pro80 and one pair MB8 (...my understanding is the MB8 doesn't project the sound like the HCLD speakers, so is it really worth anything? Or am I better off to skip it and upgrade the in-boat speakers instead. We surf and wakeboard, so maybe the MB8s would be worth it just for the surfing aspect?).

Ideally, I'd like as little hanging on the tower as possible while still getting solid sound to the rider and avoiding a bright/tinny sounding setup. I don't mind spending the money to do it right and I plan on powering whatever I get per the recommendation of Wetsounds.

Any feedback / experience would be appreciated!!

    RE: Wetsounds tower set up

i would go with a pair of 80's on the outside and 60's on the inside to save room if you want 4 speakers, or do a pair of 80's and mb8's. the other day only one of my 80's was working b/c of a loose rca and you could hear it at 80' 23.5mph no problem. i do suggest using a wet sounds amp and 420 b/c the towers get so loud you want to be able to turn em down. you definitely want the horns. i still have all my oem in boat polks amped up. i would wait to replace them until they wear out and go w/ tower. look on their site at the amps they show the config's for all kinds of set ups i.e. towers and sub, in boats, etc...

syn6 on my 3some is lovely

As for your original question about height and clearance for your head, I have a a set of 485's on my boat (08 with titan tower) and my wife can stand under the speakers without hitting her head (she is 5'3") Anyone taller is going to hit their head.

The Pro 80's are actually an inch taller than the 485's, so spread them out wide if you decide to go with those. I think the Pro 60's are around 2 inches shorter than the 80's and putting them in between 80's is confusing because of the height differences (i've seen this in person). At least on my setup, you know its the same height all the way across and subconsciously feels more streamlined.

          Not Wetsounds, NVS set up

Here is our NVS set up and they are great, we love them. I am 5'11" and had no trouble hitting my head. One picture shows the set up with the Bimini up.

            xrichard,

The PRO 485 is actually less hang than the 80's height becuase the way the housing is shaped. It is the same hang height as the PRO 60's

So you can still fit a 3-Some of a pair of 485 and have good head room. Only problem doing both of those is they will be in the middle of the tower for the 3-Some or across the whole tower for the pair.

Doing the 80's or 60's etc...let's you push them out to the sides and have a walkway.

The combo set up with the Double Up (MB-8 and 60's) or the 80/60 combo works best for this IMO. It is personal preference, but I think this looks great on a tower when you push the larger ones all the way to the sides and have the smaller ones next to it.

So if headroom is top priority. I would do one of those.

The MB-8 is designed for those that did not want as much sound at 80 feet back but wanted more mid bass punch for surfing and party cove.

So the Double Up gives you good volume at 80 feet back and amazing punch and sound for surfing and party cove.

The 80/60 combo will give you a ton of volume at 80 feet back. Sounds like you do a bit of both so you really can't go wrong with either.

If you want something stragiht across the tower with doing 4 of them, go for the 4 PRO 60's.

I would say look at our site and see some pics of various set ups and see what you like as far as look and pic that way. becuase any of those set ups is going to be awesome as far as sound goes!

If you do the Double Up or 80/60 combo. Use the SYN6 for those. It is the 6 ch amp that can be bridged to a 4 ch. Doing 200x2 and 155x2. So 200 to each MB-8 or 80 and 155 to each 60.

If you go for the 4 60's, use the SYN4. It is a solid 125x4.

And if you go for any other set ups, each amp page shows the recommend set up.

Let me know if you have any questions.

            Thanks,

            Tim

              Thanks for all the replies.

It's not the absolute hang height that is the issue...it's keeping stuff from hanging near the center walkway. Once something hangs down 11 inches, it might as well be 13 or 15...we'll have to duck to get past it. So the 60/80/MB8 lets me push the cans to the side (over the seating areas) and walk through the middle.

              Tim...two follow up questions: 1. Can I mount the P80s (or MB8s with the upgraded quick release mount) toward the sides of the tower (where it starts curving down or even on a vertical portion of the tower) and swivel the mount to get the proper orientation to face the rider;

              2. Can you compare the sound of the 60 and 80 when combined with the MB8? It looks like the 60 and 80 have the same horn, so the sound to the rider should be approximately the same with either one. If I'm relying on the MB8 for mid-base up to a moderate distance from the boat, then does going with the 80 give me anything over going with the 60?

              Thanks

                1) Yes, The new Trick Connect 2 clamp allows you to mount the speaker at any angle and swivel it to the position you want. It has a spline system.

                2) The 80 and 60 share the same horn. Although the 60 horn is toned down a tiny bit since it is paired with the smaller mid bass. So they are matched. The 80 has more volume overall and more mid bass.

But if you are doing the MB-8 with either the 60 or 80. You are going to have a ton of volume regradless. We designed the MB-8 to roll off naturally on the upper end to match with where the horn really shines.
