I do not believe I have ever seen or heard of a DVC 8 ohm sub. (dual 2's and dual 4's)

it says 8 ohms on the side of the magnet. And it has the 2 sets of connectors. I cant find any more info on it since it is an older sub. I dont have any of the papers on it anymore.

That's exciting news (not sure why, I'm just an excitable type of guy when it comes to audio). I hope it helps Chris, I told you I'd help with your stereo even if you didn't buy my boat!

sounds like a dual 4 ohm, ya?

RE: help me figure out this sound system.

Yes, you did tell me that Travis! I never doubted you would either. I have basic knowledge from a few installs back in high school, but I'm lost with all the new stuff and picking the components out.

This system I'm putting together now will not be the final one for this boat I'm sure. Its going together with what I have avasilable already for the most part. I had the sub in the closet, Headunit from a wrecked car of a friends (free), box was given to me by a fellow Nautique owner('82) that swapped to a ported box and I reused the 6x9's already in the boat. I bought some 6.5's and the 4 channel amp and I'll build some boxes soon for the 6.5's So far I've got about $200 in the sound system.

I'll get a pic of that sub later and post it up, maybe you guys can help me figure out what it is that way.

And FedX says my amp is sitting at the house waiting on me!

                      heres the subs connectors.

Like I said in my other thread, I installed the sub and amp last night, I'm very pleased with it so far. I still have to hook up the 6.5s though

Any recommendation on setting the crossovers?

I think that still just counts as one connector since they're going to the same wire.

Anyways, on your crossovers set the sub at 100 and the tops at 80. The crossover point you select isn't where it stops producing sound, that's where you've got a 3db dropoff, so it's not an endpoint, it's just where the majority of one signal or the other goes. I hope that makes sense, but you're tops can produce sound down to probably 40-50 hrz, but they're just not efficient there, or at least as much so as your sub is, so let each speaker do the work they're supposed to do, eh?

I was wondering if that counted as 1 or 2, since it was the same connector. Anyway, I guess its a single voice coil 8 ohm then. Anyway, its ran to the 1/2 channels bridged on the amp.

The amps crossover settings read from 40hz to 400 hz so you say set the sub at 100 hz or 100%

                            DVC sub

Ah, great question and I should have specified. 100hrz, and 80 hrz for the tops. You can play with that a little too. What you're telling the amp is that it needs to gate signals above or below that range. Make sure you select HP or high pass (allow high frequency signals) for the tops (6.5's and 6x9's) and LP or low pass for the sub. I imagine bridged is fine.
A dual voice coil sub actually has two connectors for both positive and negative.

                              RE: DVC sub

My recommendation on the XO's is 100hz on the tops and 80hz on the sub. The overlap that travis suggests MIGHT result in a lot of boomy mid bass (depends on acoustics and the sub and the box). I do trial and error during tuning for XO's, take your time, and don't do it in a closed room. Bass waves are very long, your subs will always sound different out on the lake than they do in a garage or stereo install shop's warehouse.

Try both, and others, post up what you find. That's the benefit of a forum.
