    replacement stereo for 1998 196

Are there any recommendations for a replacement stereo for a 98 196.
My stock unit has eaten a CD and won't give it back. I'm not even sure what brand it is. All I want is a replacement, nothing fancy or expensive. The main thing I want is to hook an ipod to it.

    Thanks.

Just about any headunit should work. If it stays outside or gets wet in that area get a marine grade HU if its in the glove box and protected from the elements just get a stadard auto HU.

I've had really good luck with Eclipse. CD3000 in mine, plays MP3 cd's which I have a ton of, so that works out pretty well.

pioneer will outlast anything on the market hands down, may not be the flashiest but quality. Been through several brands and always come back to pioneer.

No idea your budget is but these seem good, I have only seen tham at shows, so am unable to personally recommend

I will sell you the XMD3 out of my 2005 as soon as I install the CMD5 sitting on my workbench. $50 plus shipping including the remote if you are interested.

              Upgrade from CMD5 to Alpine

During a recent total sound system upgrade I replaced the CDM5 with the new Alpine. I can play CD's, data CD's, Sirius, IPOD, and can even plug in a USB memory stick for even more tunes. I installed the Alpine RF remote and have three waterproof/floating remotes through out the boat but the main reason I got them was so we could have complete control form the dock. I POD connect is on the right and USB plug is on the left, the Sirus is mounted out of since it is controled directly from the head unit no need to have access to it.
