Alpine USB Plug

I had the Clarion CMD5 but I like the Alpine display and quick search much better. On the CMD5 it would take forever to find a particular song. The USB plug is my favorite advantage over the CMD5, you can leave the IPOD home and dump some tunes on a mem-stick and run. If you drop a mem-stick in the lake, no big loss.

Jaybird,

Thanks for the additonal pix!! Great install.
I have been picking up the parts needed to do almost the same thing.
Amp, tower speakers, sub
Need additional battery, isolater/combiner & battery switch, tower speakers wiring kit & sub enclosure.

I'm trying to determine where to locate the sub & amps so I can bring the wiring down the tower on the correct side.

I have an '02 SAN and the radio is on the driver side and the battery is in the nose. My first thought was to put sub & amps under the passenger/observer seat and the addtional battery in the nose. The combiner/isolater and battery switch was going to go in the engine compartment.

That plan will require a lot of wiring along the passenger side of the boat (bow to stern). I like your setup and may consider doing the same -- gotta think this one through again!

Good Luck

I did the same, thought it through, and did not get in a hurry and everything worked out.

You have a more to deal with since the head unit is on the driver side. Mine was in the glove box thus short wire runs. My speaker wires were already run so the only long run was the #2 from the 2nd battery to my rear primary battery. The 226 battery is mounted at the rear step thru on the port side. I used the #2 wire based on the 70-amp alternator output charging the 2nd battery and fused accordingly. Since the #2 is rated for 70 amps I can run the audio system off either battery or both if need be but could not start the boat with only the 2nd battery yet if the primary battery does get low I can combine them and would basically be using the 2nd battery like you would with jumper cables. Starters can briefly pull over 250 amps but if the primary battery is just low the combiner would allow for emergency starting. I have a 100 amps breaker at the rear primary battery feeding the 2nd battery. Recommended wire for starting is #00 but it is very difficult to run and truly not necessary unless the primary battery removed.

One big heads up! You need to give thought as to how you plan to make your battery cables, this is a big part of your install and it’s worth knowing its safe and connections will last. My system required #1, #2 & #4 wire. #1 at the battery, combiner and switch, #2 from the rear and #4 feeding the amps. I operate a manufacturing company so had access to the special crimping tools to install the cable end lugs and ordered heat shrink tubing to seal from moisture. I ordered marine tinned battery wire and lugs from genuinedealz.com. The lugs must be ordered for each individual wire size and after crimping heat shrink to seal. Good Luck..

Under Dash

One more shot

I installed the Sirius adapter and Sirius mobile unit and they operate seamlessly from the Alpine thus i could be mounted under the glove box.

RE: Power distrubution and fuse block

Nice, dude. I should have put my stuff up there on my 99. My amps and all are on my kick board. Helps keep my feet warm on those cool nights.
