Our 07 236 was stripped of all its stereo equipment in December except the tower speakers. Since we were not satisfied with the stock system, we hope to use insurence money (and more) to upgrade. The problem is i have no clue what to get, i want more bass and great quality speakers, i also want it to be loud enought to hear (clear as possible) while riding. I was also wondering if it was possible to replace the 6x9's on the tower and keep them in the same Nautique enclosures?

RE: i would like your opinion!
The polk speakers you had on the interior were just fine - they were not set up at the amp properly. You need a good 12" sub and do some vent work as previously discussed if stored under the seat. If you want to hear the music at wake/ski length you will need to get NVS or wetsounds - the Nautique enclosures that hold car speakers just wont do it.
Somewhat fortunate that you were not happy with the system and someone did the removal for free. Hopefully no damage to the boat2006 SANTE 210 (Pending Sale)

for your in boat speakers get the xs-650's. for your sub get an xxx. for your amps get a syn 6 for all the in boats and the sub. as far as tower speaker's go you arent going to get great sound out of those really at distance. then if you want to get killer tower sound you can actually hear riding get pro 80's or pro 60's with a syn2 amp. if you do that you'll want a 420eq b/c the tower speakers are loud. you honesetly couldn't do it any better than that unless you did a syn1 for the sub, and added mb8's to your pro 80's or pro 60's. add an automatic battery isolater, use nice interconnects and wiring(jl audio makes cool marine) and then enjoy.

Do your self a huge favor and consider the Alpine CDA-9886M Head Unit. To many advantage over the Clarion to even list.

RE: i would like your opinion!
I have the non-marine Alpine 9886 in the Mustang. and it is a very easy to use unit. The whole new Alpine Marine system is sweet. I have PDX amps in my SAN already a 4.150 running my tower and my sub, and a 4.100 running my cabin speakers. All top notch, relatively affordable gear. I am going to get the marine version of the 9886 for my SAN and get the remote pod for the transom.
take a look. make sure you note the marine stress tests they put this stuff through !!

If you listen to an iPod a lot the Alpine's can't be beat. The ease of use and the way the iPod works with the Alpine is great. You can put the iPod down and forget about it. I have an older alpine in my boat and love it, all we listen to is either Satellite radio or the iPod.

RE: i would like your opinion!
If funds are limited I would spend them on a head unit last, even to the point of skipping it altogether.
Ported 12" sub at the drivers feet or inside the passenger compartment with added venting amp crossover set at 80hz.
Pick a boat speaker that you like, Wetsounds xs-650, Polk db-651, momo's, or otherwise. Enable the highpass crossover at 100hz.
If you want to stick with one pair of 6x9s don't plan on hearing them from the boat. Switch to Wetsounds Pro-485s, Pro 80's, Pro 60's, double up, MB8 combo, NVS, etc. Run them off a strong amp crossed at 80hz (highpass).
The wetsounds syn 6 amp is getting lots of positive feedback. Other options are the Alpine's, JL's, Crossfire, even the factory Clarions if you change the wiring configuration.
Run an EQ, the flexibility it provides will make your system much easier to adjust to your changing needs.

RE: i would like your opinion!
I can concur with mikeski on the tower speakers needed to be a wetsounds or NVS variety. I just sold my pair of double 6.5 polk tower speakers cause they really werent loud enough. My wife could hear them riding a 60' line at 19mph, but me at 24 mph and a 75' line was craving much more. I just installed a pair of wetsounds Pro485 with a syn4 amp and cant wait to hear them riding.2001 Super Air Nautique
