6 1/2" gunwale (sp?) speaker enclosures

I was thinking of making some kind of box enclosures to add more bass for the four factory-installed 6 1/2" round speakers in my '95 SN. It looks like a pain since each location is a different irregular shape. Has anyone here made some enclosures like this?

Haven't tried that, but...I put in a small amp (Walmart special) and a BAZOOKA tube (6 1/2") with a crossover to take the low end out of the side speakers. IT really helps them crank it out without worrying about overloading them and the bass from the tube is far superior to anything you could get out of the side speakers. You can just hide the tube behind the foot plate or under the bow.

Don't bother, for the same effort you can build a bass box above the footrest. I run 2 - 8" woofers in my ski nautuque close bow in that location. Sounds pretty good.

The bazooka sounds like a good idea, but I like the two 8" subs in a box too. Mikeski - how did you make your box, or did you buy one already made? How did you mount it above the footrest. Do you have a photo?

          Skidude,
Here is part of a message I sent to somebody else asking the same question:

I don't have any pictures of the box above the footrest, it is not much to see anyway, unless I removed it from the boat and thats never going to happen since it was such a bear to get in there. This is the space where they usually put the heater, which I do not have. The box was a real b1tch to build but I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. It's about 9" tall, 12" deep, 16" wide at the widest point. The right edge of the woofer face is angled to match the side of the hull, the bottom is also angled to match the hull, the other angles just follow these lines. I built a mockup box from cardboard to determine the maximum size and angles. Once I had the mockup I used my table saw and started cutting the 3/4 mdf. It has lots of complex angles, I even found myself using some analytic geometry tricks to figure them out. If I were to do it over again I might just use the boat hull for the side, top, and bottom then just foam in the joints.

I always put a partition between the woofers in my sealed boxes. Lots of car guys skip this step but I feel it is necessary. You might be able to get a single 10" or 12" woofer in this space if you angle the mounting face of the woofer, mine is straight up and down pretty much maxed out with 2 8" woofers.

I have 3 amps, one is mounted on the side of the box just above the carpeted vertical side forward of the footrest, the other 2 are on the sides of the icechest in the dash. The ones on the side of the icechest have come loose a couple times, I plan to add stainless machine screws completely through the sides with nylock nuts this winter. I am using small and light Blaupunkt PA2150 tripath amps, the ones in the boat work well but I just started having troubles with the ones in my car so I am a little leery about them right now.
