    Alpine CDA-9886M and iphone compatibility

I know several people on the forum have upgraded to the Alpine unit and I am leaning this direction myself. I wanted to see if anyone knows if this headunit is capable of playing music from an iphone? Or if anyone has tried?

I see that there is an Alpine KCE-422i adapter for this model that works for most every other ipod, but the iphone wasnt listed.

I would like to be able to stream music via an app (Pandora) through the head unit - thus negating the need for satellite radio, plus it plays a defined lists of pre-chosen artists.

I figure someone out there has to have toyed around and figured something.
    Thanks!

I am going to upgrade to this head unit as well. If you go to Alpine's website, it states that this head unit (with the 422i cable) will work with your iPhone. I highly doubt that you will be able to surf through your Pandora music since all the other 422i cords take over your ipod and go straight to your music.

It should work fine but I'm not sure about the Pandora functionality. Worst case you will need to throw your iPhone into airplane mode.

Question: Why do you have the Wetsounds 420 AND the Alpine? I ask more for my own benefit, as I am looking to upgrade my system and you can control your Wetsounds Pro485s and inboard speakers all with the Alpine.

Depending on your future system setup, the Alpine is great if you have a subwoofer and no tower speakers. But if you have both, the 420 will allow you to control volume levels separately (tower vs. inboat). You can crank one set and turn the other off and vice versa. It also has sub controls and a microphone. The Alpine receiver does have 3 pre-amps, but the fader/balance can't do what the 420 does.

Overall, I highly recommend Alpine for superior sound quality since it has a 24-bit DAC and 4-volt preamps. I can tell a huge difference versus the old Clarion I had before. Not to mention the wired remote thats coming out later this year.

              Crowland,

Most likely any Alpine that you would look at for iPod purposes is going to have triple preouts (front, rear & sub). You might consider the triple 4-volt unit if you're not using an EQ.

There are two routes you can go relating to your iPhone.

1.) Use the dedicated iPod cable which transfers the iPod/iPhone menu and control to the Alpine source unit faceplate and its display remote control (forthcoming). Control and functionality will be limited to iPod operations. Bluetooth and other iPhone operations will not apply.

2.) Convert the iPhone output to RCA and convert the Alpine Ai-Net input to RCA via readily available adapters. This maintains the menu and control on the iPhone without limitations. This route requires that you position your iPhone on the driver's side.

The iPhone officially works with the Alpine radio. You can't surf through any menus because it locks up, but you can access all your music folders and what not. Here is a pic of what it looks like...

With this Unit can you still utilize the Clarion remote next to the driver steering wheel?
