I am thinking about removing my clarion 4&2 ch. and jl sub amp and installing a wet sounds syn 6 to run everything in my 210. my question is, am i going to be looking at alot of labor charges for reconfiguration or will it be fairly simple? i have a 420 mounted under the driver's remote. i'd love to hear from ear mark. i know it's hard to tell w/o checking it out first. but i don't know how in depth it would be.

RE: changing amp set up
the specs of the syn6 do not look like they would carry your sub that has a RMS of 500 watts along with six other speakers. You have a d.v.c. 4 ohm ws-12 correct? It appears the best the syn6 can do would be around 300watts at 2 ohms.2006 SANTE 210 (Pending Sale)

What is your set up right now? Swapping over to a SYN-6 is an easy swap. The SYN-6 has an rca input stage that can take 3 sets, 2 sets of 1 set as it can sum them in groups. So to configure it is straight forward.
But since amd mentions your dual 4 ohm woofer. Maybe there is another way we can look at it.
The SYN-6 will do 600x1 at 4 ohms mono on chs 5-6. But if you have a dual 4 ohm woofer, you are able to run it at 2 ohms off either ch 5 or 6 and get 305. Or you can run it at 8 ohms mono and get about the same 300 watts.
So you would not be using the optimum power the amp can produce based on imp load
Let me know what you have in the system now as far as spks and amount and imp of the woofer and we can lay out some ideas to make sure.
I think you already have a SYN-6 on the 3-Some right? So we are talking about powering in boats and sub?

hey tim, its reed. yes, 6 in boats and sub(xs12) after they just came out. right now the sub is wired to a mono sub amp, the front two speakers are wired to a 2ch amp, and the rear 4 are wired to a 4 ch. i just want a simplified system. im still undecided b/c im kinda broke but not really. i'll have the boat back next week and can post install pics.

Hey Reed, what's up!
Sounds like the best solution would be to just pull the 4 ch and 2 ch on the in boats and swap that for a single SYN-4. Run the front off 2 chs and the rear 2 pairs off 2 chs. And keep the sub amp how you have it.
That would take you from 4 amps to 3. Would be an easy swap as well. Single RCA into the SYN-4 and hook up the spk wires.
Syn-6 is a great option to use for in boats and sub but a 4 ohm load is what is needed to use all the power and since you already have a sub and sub amp. Easier to just do the 4 vs going with the 6 and having to swap the sub to different imp.

cool. well i will defnitely get a 4 when i get some cash flow. that alone rather than the 6 will save me $. now its just decided whether or not to tow the boat 12 hours to ear mark or 3.5 to h20sports dothan whent he time comes. thanks Tim. if there were a customer service award i'd say wet sounds gets it for the entire consumer market.

i dont do installs myself. i can tune a system pretty well, and know about how they should be set up correctly, but know nothing about distribution blocks, don't have hardly any power tools but a drill, and would rather have a knowledgeable installer do it for me. and not to mention i get frustrated and pissed in the middle of projects. and I have bad knees, a bum shoulder, and neck pain.

The nice thing about what you are considering is that you do not have to be a rocket scientist to do the work. If you are going to add just one amp and are limited on cash all you need to do is install the 12v + and 12 v - using appropriate sized wire. Add a jumper from the existing amp(s) for the 12 v switch and transfer the speaker wire over. Either way it's your dime and you can save plenty of money by just searching and reading in the forum here at PN. You are doing nothing that has not been asked and answered many times and there are pictures and instructions to follow.
If I recall correctly - you have had several past bad experiences with installers - seems to be reason enough to do the job yourself.2006 SANTE 210 (Pending Sale)

gride300,
With the XS-12 DVC's in parallel any JL monoblock is optimized. Even though the XS-12 is rated at 500 watts I believe it can do a great job with 300 conservatively rated watts, especially in a bass-reflex enclosure. Question is which JL amp do you have?
Assuming you have the Clarion 480 & 280, these six channels are on cruise running six 4-ohm coaxials high-pass. There is no reason why you can't eliminate the bow amplifier now and run the Clarion 4-channel to six speakers, 4-ohm to bow and 2-ohm to the cockpit. The 480 won't thermal and will yield more output than under the current configuration. I doubt you'll hear a difference without the 280 in the system. For now this would clean things up without a cost.

i have the jl marine sub amp i got about april of 08. i dont have my boat at the moment or i'd go look. its basically all white and i want to say it will run at 500w? can you explain why i'd get more power from one amp on 6 channels as opposed to 2 amps on 6 channels when they are the same clarion 4 and 2 marine. not the new style.

gride300,
It won't be about equal power. Eliminating the 2-channel amplifier will give you about the same power in the bow. Because 2 channels of your 4 channel amplifier will deliver more power into 2-ohms than into 4-ohms, you'll have a slight drop in cockpit output of less than 1.5 dB. This is a miniscule difference since it takes a 10 dB increase to create the perception of double the volume.
Your existing 6 channels are just about ideal for running any 6 in-boat coaxials. You're not going to net a notable increase in output by replacing them with a larger 4-channel.
But if your goal is to unclutter your storage area or have a single brand of amplifier for cosmetic reasons then I can understand why you're compelled to make a change.
I'd still like to visit with you about your other system issues before you make wholesale equipment changes.
