wired remote location recommendations for '99 Pro Air??

I'm going to install a wired remote for my stereo (MB quart) it's round and is very similar to the Clarion units. I've seen Grant's installation on the deck of his '02 Air which is a very similar boat to mine. My boat's deck has a pretty large reinforced area under the deck which looks like it's there to support the lifting ring, therefore I'm a little hesitant to drill a hole in there. I have a running light on the tower, so I no longer need the plug in stern light socket, but enlarging that hole looks like a pain because of the reinforcement.

Anybody who's done this on the direct drive Air/Sports '98-'02??

Well I found out that the reinforcement under the deck near the lifting ring makes it a solid 1.5" (maybe a little thicker?) on that part of the deck, has anyone installed a remote there?

Grant-how thick was the area where you mounted your remote and pop up transom light?
