What type of speakers should I get?

I have a 2001 - 210 with stock Clarion speakers. I don't know what Correct Craft was thinking when they put these in. Anyway, I am going to replace these. I was going to put Polk Momo's in, but guy at audio store (who sells Polks) recommended the Rockford Fosgates over the Polks. He said the Polks are good for cars in an enclosed environment but in the open they are not great and can't handle high volumes.

Any thoughts? I am going with Wetsounds for the tower and assing a sub, but let's focus the discussion on the Polk/Rockford Fosgates....

I disagree my polks scream. Sounds like your sound guy has a better basis on his fosgate speakers. The polks are marine certified are the fosgates?

I have 6 of the polk momo's from my 07 for sale. might save you some money to upgrade amps or other things. I have gone through this with 2 boats now and it all depends on where you go (which store) as to what they tell you is better. I say the polk momo's are great for the interior seakers.

            Flipside,

The Polk MOMOs are a smooth and accurate sounding speaker and will handle plenty of power. They're great for the reflective (lots of glass) auto interior and will perform admirably in near field boat applications. The MOMOs lack the false boost in the highs that is present in so many of the dedicated marine coaxials. A small boost in the treble control will give the MOMOs that aggressive edge to compete with the wind and motor noise. In any case, the MOMOs are the wrong speaker for a tower but you're going in the right direction there with the WetSounds.

The Rockford's I'm considering are the Rockford Fosgate M262s (marine grade). Thanks Earmark for your confirmation on what I was told by the audio store. I've done my research and you know your stuff. I went to the Nautique dealer and listened to the stock Polk's on the 09's and I was not impressed. Wetsounds on the tower, Rockford's on the interior.... Now to get my check from Uncle Sam to make it happen - that's my stimulus package!

                flipside,

Does the dealer you are gettng your Wet Sounds from have any XS-650 in stock?

See if they can bring in some Wet Sounds XS-650 coax and listen to them A to B against the rockfords. This way you can see for yourself and have a full Wet Sounds system.

And everyhting will flow from tower to in boats. Trust me, it is worth taking a listen to them!!
