    1991 SN Speaker/head unit install

I'm planing to install a stereo in the boat this summer, it's a 1991 SN. Is there a factory piece for mounting the headunit in the glovebox? Anyone have pictures of their setup in the glove box? I plan on mounting the speakers in the side rails, are the circles pre-cut out on all the boats w/ the vinly over them? (the boat is in winter storage otherwise i'd just go take a look)! If they are pre-cut, what diameter are the holes?

    Thanks!

Im pretty sure the holes are cut out in the combing pads and are just covered in vinyl. The cut outs should be for 6.5" speakers.

Have you given any thought to building fiberglass enclosures for the speakers to install along the sides instead? Once you cut that vinyl, it cant be undone!

Yes I've definitely considered just building some boxes fit in the semi-circular area where the side rails become wider. Has anyone else done this?

I like the idea of the factory locations though, I'd have to cut the vinly but I'm pretty confident I could do it without messing it up.

I actually finished installing a stereo and speakers in my 93 SN today. I will take some pictures tomorrow and post them. Per Woody at SECC the stereo install kit is no longer available. What I did was just cut out the area on the back side of the glove compartment. I installed a clarion marine radio i believe it is a din and half size and fit well. I also installed a wired remote in place of the left speedo gauge. I also installed 4 6.5" polk audio momo marine speakers in the coming pads. there were cut outs in them already. All the wiring is there, I redid all the wires just because they looked pretty old. I also have tower speakers that i have to install and would like to get a powered bozoka sub and install it up forward in the storage area. I will post some pictures tomorrow.

I've got a little 6" bazooka tube (dual voice coil) that I am looking to sell. It's not powered, but it's in fine shape. PM me if interested.

Rlbol, are those the shallow mount polk db651s or the regular ones?

I am not sure I didn't know there were any difference. They are from circuit city? I will look at the box and let you know

they are db-651 But i am not sure if they are shallow mount or not. I did have to trim a little bit from the gunnels where the speakers are mounted

                      Rlbol,

So following the install, what is your impression of the Polk Audio db-651's? I'm looking heavily at this speaker as it is a very low cost option. Crutchfield is running the "buy one pair, get the other 1/2 off". Are yours powered by an amp? Not sure that I want to deal with the amp install thing.

I originally purchased 6 of them 4 for the nautique and 2 for a polaris ranger. I installed them in the ranger first and was not very impressed with them. The inclosure is not very good. The ones in the Nautique sound much much better though. For what I paid for them I think they are very good and would buy them again!

                          Rlbol,

is it really worth getting rid of a speedometer for the remote?

well that was a temporary location. I plan on making a new panel where the ignition key and horn switch are and installing it there. The remote fit perfectly in place of the speedo so it worked out as a temporary place perfectly.
