    Handheld Remote for 2006

I was looking at the 2006 brochure over at ccfan and noticed that a handheld stereo remote was available as an option for the cmd4.

How would I find one of those? ...can I get it from Clarion? ...or from CC?

Anyone have one and like it?

My CMD5 came with a handheld remote. It was useless with the head unit mounted in the glove box. It was not waterproof...I'm sure it would float, but it would be ruined.

        Air Tool,

That is an infrared remote control so sunlight will wash it out. It will work reliably only at night.

We have the radio frequency keyfob remotes available that will give you up to 50 feet in range.

How do the RF units work? Any mods to the head unit required? is there a receiver to wire in?

Is the remote on the dash hardwired? ...I'd assume it is.

I was mainly wanting it to use in the boat barn so I can adjust the tunes w/o crawling in.

            AirTool -

The Clarion part # for that remote is RCB176 and it works on "2006-2009 Source Units". The company I used to work for owns Clarion, so I confirmed this from the 2009 Clarion Employee Price List that I still have. Google the model # and you can find it for cheap, if you are still looking.

              AirTool,

No mods required. The very small receiver plugs into the existing remote cable with a standard Clarion Y-adapter. You'll maintain the function of any existing hardwired remote controls. We keep them in stock. You can email us at info@earmarkcaraudio.com.

I had it on my XMD3, recently upgraded to a CMD5, works on both so it should work on the CMD4.

It allows me to advance tracks on my IPOD through the CCAIPOD interface on my CMD5 while surfing and boarding. Mine works from 75' out if I hold it up while I am just outside the wake. I have the receiver mounted under the passenger gunnel as with the antenna wire taped as high as possible. It's not 100% but it works well enough.
