I know there has been a lot of talk about flush mounting speakers in SANTE. I could not bring myself to cutting the vinyl and front mounting the speakers. Here are some photos on how I mounted some 6.5 INFINITY speakers in place of the clarion on my 02 SANTE. I know everyone says the Clarions are 6.5, but the holes I had in my side pieces, were only 5.25. The new Infinity’s were not going to fit in the PVC spacers.
From the Photos, you can see how I used the parts from the grill assembly, to use as a spacer to keep the speaker back away from the sides. If you mount the speaker directly to the side panels, you will crush the rubber flexible cone that surrounds the speaker, and after a week they will stop working.
I used silicon to glue the spacers to the side panels, and after that dried, I purchased longer screw that ran through the covers that surrounds the speakers, the speakers, the spacer and then into the side panels.
I can’t say if they sound any better than the Clarions, because I never had a chance to listen to them. I can only hope. Thank you MIKESKI for your help and suggestions. The photos are in reverse order, look at the last one first and then go forward
