    I fried my amp :(

So, this past weekend was not perfect by any means. On the way ot the lake saturday it started to rain, before i pulled over and covered the boat a decent amount of rain was able to get in. Nothing major, but it was damp everywhere. After the rain stopped and the boat was launched, I dried what I could and them didnt think any more of it when we went out about an hour later.

Well as soon as I turned the radio on smoke and that electric burnt smell came from under the bow. Condensation covered the amp and it had smoke coming out of the vent on the side of the amp. I disconnected everything fro mthe battery and finished the day no sound.

I havent pulled it from the boat yet to look at it good, but anyone else experienced this? Is the amp toast or jsut need to dry out. This is a car amp i had, not a marine amp. So I guess its time ot buy a good marine amp and be done with it huh?

Where the heck was the amp mounted if a little bit of rain water caused this? It is a boat after all, it's supposed to get wet.

on top of the sub box in front of the battery comp in the closed bow. It wasnt wet from rain, but condensation from the high humidity after the rain was over.

if you can snap a quality pic of the internals, I can tell you whether or not it will be worth repairing....

Travis, the Clarion very well may be what I go with next. I really havent started looking yet but I've seen those for about $150.

someone has one in the gear for sale thread. Original poster was JOECOS, who I bought mine from, but someone tagged on the end of the thread that they had one NIB for 130, or so. You should expect to pay 100, 125, somewhere around there, but they work very well and are pretty versatile. I wish they went down to 2 ohms, though.

Travis, what do you have running off of that amp? I remember a 10" sub pair of 6x9's and some 6.5's? that right?

Chris - I have a 10" infinity sub running off a pioneer 720w, and a kicker 650.4 running four Polk DB650's in the boat and the other channels running Kicker KMT6's on the tower. I have the old cans that I took down and the Clarion is actually in the Tundra. I know, I know, it's crazy talk, but that's just the way it is.
The boat sounds amazing, by the way. It's the best I've heard (keep in mind that I'm not in California and I've never seen a pair of Wetsounds in real life.)

I'm waiting by the front window looking for that big brown truck like a kid watches the sky for Santa Clause on Christmas Eve!

Travis, I ditched the sealed box I had my 10" in, I have a slot ported one that I will try in a couple different positions, I am anxious to try it firing down like you have it. I'll run it bridged on the Clarion.

I finished my custom boxes/cup holders for the 6.5's in the back, I am going to run those and the 6x9's I have on the other 2 channels of the Clarion.

Eventually, I will add another pair of 6x9's firing out from the dash area and another amp, at least thats the plan.
