box question

Have any of you ever used the polyfill material? Does it work? I made a box I bit to small and the bass kinda flattens out at high volume and high excrusion. Will the fill help with this? I have heard that it kind of tricks the sub into thinking the box is bigger and produces a deeper bass.

Give it a try. I have always used that stuff for when the boxes are a little too big. It helps with the quality of the sound of the music.

I am using it in my sub now. It was actually recommended by polk in the sub manual. It definately helps mine with a deeper hit.

Sure, we use it frequently, especially in tower pods.

Polyester fill works by disipating acoustical energy as it is transformed into thermal energy. It requires that you completely fill, but loosely pack, the enclosure before you will have an impact on the displacement.

This can also have the effect of over-damping the woofer to where it loses its dynamic quality (too dead sounding).

Its a cheap experiment so definitely give it a try.

If it doesn't work out you can restore the sofa pillows.
