    Sony transom remote - Ideas?

    Hey fellas,

I bought a Sony CDX-M60UI HU and RM-X55M remote to replace the original receiver in my 1993 Sport. I wanted the remote for all the same reasons that everyone else cite- music control from swim step and rear seat, etc. - but I haven't seen much in the form of remote install pics or discussion specifically on the sloping transom.

Any ideas where I should install it? I do realize it requires a 3"+ hole to be drilled, and I'm not *too* concerned about doing that (ask me when I have drill in hand). I'm open to any ideas or opinions, including why I shouldn't do it at all!

I'm headed to Lake Granbury TX for the weekend and want to have everything in place by then, so if I'm installing the remote it's going to happen in the next couple of days.

    Thanks,
    Tim

I thiought those only required a pilot hole to run the wires through. I dont think you drill a 3" hole and recess the remote.

Nope, instructions clearly show that the remote is to be recessed into a hole 3 1/4" in diameter.

I think you are going to have to remove the fuel tank to get access to install on the transom. I couldn't see any other way of doing it. Also when I was looking to put in a remote it was the previous generation Sony was not as water resistent.

This remote that works with Sony head units can fit in the vent slot and you can run the wires easily through to inside the boat without drilling:

It isn't as nice looking as the Sony and there is no screen. But it works and the install was very easy.

Wow - a 3" hole - that is a serious commitment. And I am sweating the two 3/16" holes for LED lighting.

Just my opinion - is it possible to consider another brand or something that only requires a small hole for wiring?
I only ask as I am thinking down the road, that device may fail and be unavailable. It's not apples to apples but the
factory clarion wired remotes fail all the time. When the time comes for change I only have a small hole to deal with.
