    The Boost Box Review...

I had posted in a previous thread that I was going to buy a Boost Box and see how it worked. I ordered it last monday and it was delivered to my door on thursday. I ordered it through Boardstop.com but it can be purchased several places.

It was actually much smaller and lighter than I thought it would be. The package contained the power wire, a remote control hook up wire, and the box itself. I decided to mount mine under the helm to have easy access to it. This would allow me to reach down and turn it on and off with ease.

It took all of about 10 minutes to plug in the remote and the power wires and plug the unit in. Mounting it I ended up using the supplied velcro to a small flat piece of aluminum that I mounted on the left side of the footwell. I might have 30 minutes total in the install and most of that was cutting and drilling the hole in the flat aluminum plate.

Once mounted you have to calibrate it in calm water with the boat at rest. You turn it one and a series of flashing lights occur then the light goes solid. Once the light is solid its on an ready to be adjusted. To adjust the level of the volume under way you simply turn the knob to the desired amount of boost. There are no markings or scale so I started at what I thought was 3/4's up.

I started the boat and hit play on the play list and off we went. As soon as I started to plane I watched in amazement as the volume starts to climb. The box took it to about 27 on my CMD 5 which turned out to be where I usually have it when we ride. Then I let off the throttle and came to rest and just as smooth as it raised the volume it lowered it to the exact level that we were before we took off.

On a scale of 1-10 I give this a definate 10 for something usefull while wakeboarding. I am super impressed at how smooth it raised and lower the volume. Really cool product that I wish that I had thought of first. Being driver and DJ just got much easier.

I will post some pictures later in the week when I go back to the lakehouse.

Oh and I almost forgot it works just as good surfing as it does wakeboarding.

The Boost box raises and lowers the volume based on the boats acceleration and deceleration. The wetsounds mic/eq is just a equalizer with a PA mic. You can adjust volume on the EQ manually, but not automatic. The boost box is a hands free volume control.

Has anyone tried this in conjunction with the WS420? I have a friend who can never remember to turn up my WS420 when we start going (when I am riding). I spend the first minute and a half pointing to my ear until he finally spots me in the mirror. This sounds like the perfect solution, but I don't want to lose my mic or the ability to tweak tower and in cabin separately.

The Boost Box - Automatic Volume Control

If you google "the boost box WS420" the first page is a positive review of the combination from Brad on this forum.

              http://planetnautique.com/vb3/showth...oost-Box/page2

I have not heard of any negative results from the combination.

I've been using both the Boost Box and the WS420 for two years now and I couldn't be happier. Both work seemlessly together!

+1 on brads review . Every thing he said is dead on . I installed mine last Thursday just before going to the Clinton lake mini. Installation couldn't be easier. The unit works just as advertised. Two things I will never be without zero off and boost box.

FYI, the 2010 and newer Nautiques with the LINC system have this feature built in from the factory. It is really cool to have the volume adjust based on speed.

It doesn't actually work "with" 420 it's really made to work with the clarion radios. It hooks up to the clarion and turns the volume up on that. It won't turn up the 420 volume.

The Boost Box - Automatic Volume Control

I've asked before on this forum, but does someone have some experience directly with the LINC system with automatic volume control?

Is the volume increase behavior linear with increasing speed? does it get louder as you go faster? Is the volume "boost" setable somehow? Is there a knob to control the volume boost feature?

I know we've seen some customers with OEM installed automatic volume control who were very unhappy with how the pre-installed feature worked.

Some of these customers were unhappy enough to even turn off the pre-installed volume control feature.
