What type of speaker cans to use on the new Style Tower?

I was wondering about the system I would put in my boat when I get it. I am really not a big fan of the swivel speaker cans on the FCT3. I would like to get something that I can put my own choice of speaker in it. Does anybody know of a can that will work on this new tower. I am just trying to get all my ducks in a row when I purchase my new boat. I am think of getting the Air 230 2010'. I am getting a list of stereo equipment that I would like to get for the boat. That would be my first mod for the boat. Everything else is just perfect on the boat. Well I might add some LED lights to it since we do lots of camping out on the lake at night. Thanks in advance.

Or David (earmark Audio) If you have a suggestion of a can I can use on this tower. By the way the LED rings that I purchased for my other boat look awesome. I will send you pictures. Say thanks to Justin for me.

      tazz,

We are in the process of doing an '09 with four pods...

Two on the vertical tower rails and two on the horizontal rails, similar to the factory arrangement.

We'll get in touch just as soon as we have some finished photos.

Thanks everyone for the reply. Like I said, I am getting my ducks in a row when i purchase my new boat. It is a must that the system sounds awesome. Right now, in my current boat, I am running 6 Polk DB651 in the cabin, 4 MB Quart in the tower, one Boston Acoustic G3 sub, a Kicker MX700.5, and a Kicker MX 350.4 for the tower. The system is crisp and sounds great at 70' back. I might want to change it up on the new boat. I'll probably keep the polks in the cabin, change out the sub, change out the amps, and replace the tower speakers. All of those, of course will be for sale when the boat comes home.

Since we are on the subject of speakers and amps, I have another question. How many RCA jack outputs does the Stock Clarion radio have? I do not like using a Y-RCA connector at all. I want to put in a total of 3 amps in the boat. 6 channel for the cabin, 4 channel for the tower, and a mono for the sub. I think that I want to use the JL Audio amps this time. I am really happy with the kickers that I have in my current boat. I just want to try something different. What do you guys think about those amps? Are they reliable?

Sounds like you have a good setup to start with and you will be able to raise some funds by selling some of that equipment if you choose to do so.

If the Clarion Head Unit does not have 3 sets of RCA outputs (front, rear, sub) and you don't want to split RCA cables, then take a look at the wetsounds WS420. This will allow you to keep the Clarion dekc and run a single pair (L+R) of RCA's to the WS420 and the run 3 RCA's cable to front, rear and sub.

I think tower speakers will be the biggest add on you can do from the start along with the WS 420. Maybe start with a set of Pro 80's. If that is not loud enough for you, you can always add a Pro 485 or another set of Pro 80's.

            Just my opinion

Thanks Murphy. I went to the Wetsounds web site and did not see if any of those speaker cans fit the new tower. If they do, then Wetsounds it is. If they do not work, then back to the questions. Thanks again.

Look again at the Wetsounds Nautique gallery at the last picture. There is a new FCT3 with 485s on it. Tim used to have a couple of other pics on there too. Try emailing them and I bet he will be more than happy to send you some install pics if they have them.

Thanks, I guess I did not really noticed it polished out. I am so use to seeing it powder coated black. I wonder of they make the can to go were the existing swivel cans go?

If you've got the time and money you can do anything you want. They figured out how to put beer in a can, I'm sure it's cakewalk to get a speaker on a tower!!!

very true. Now that we talked about wetsound speakers, I was looking at the bullet speakers. has anyone used these before and if yes how did you like them?

                        Tazz3069,

For a look at Bullet HollowPoints on a new tower, check out the thread on this page: '09 Nautique 210 with HollowPoints

In this case we selected HollowPoints because they fit the application perfectly. Four HollowPoint 770 HLCDs are seriously loud and sound great at 80 feet.

The pods are spun-aluminum, come in black, white, chrome and can be custom powdercoated in any color. Grills are available in black, white, silver/gray or chrome so you can match the coaming grills, get the murdered-out look or go for a little bling. The collars are machined aluminum, very strong, low-profile and are extremely adaptive.

Thanks David. Now I pretty much know what I want now. I just need to get the boat to put all this stuff on. I think a new 2010' Super Air 230 in in the future

                            Tazz,

Here is the pic on the new tower with the 485 pair. I think this is the best looking system around for this tower as the shape of the housing follows the lines of the tower. It looks like they were made for each other. Plus the 485 pair is going to give you the most volume. The other picture answers your question about the lower mounts where the factory speakers go. This dealer did a Double Up with the MB-8's up top and the PRO 60X on the bottom and made them fit. It would take a little more work for those lower mounts but as you can see, can be done and look great. And after that. Any of the Wet Sounds speakers can fit on this tower. And in all sorts of different set ups. But my fav is the 485 pair. Since the new towers are black, a black pair of 485's would flow and not look like an add on.

Do you know how they retrofitted the two low speakers. Do the wetsounds swivel?
