What head unit for 2000 SAN

I am pretty sure my factory clarion is fried. What head unit can I replace it with that will still use the factory remote? I would still like to keep it under the arm rest and a marine unit would be nice. Does it have to be another clarion?

Why do you think your unit is fried? If it does not turn on, have you checked the fuses? If these are fine, have you checked that there is voltage present going into the unit? It might be that either the positive lead (red) or ground (black) are not making proper contact.

If your unit is connected to an accessory lead, it might be that the fuse protecting that accesory blew. If you have a fuse box, check to make sure the fuse on this accesory has not blown.

well since I bought the boat.. Which was used in December. If the Cd player plays for more than 20 or so minutes. Its stops working and the player is says what apears to be "ERR 3" on it. So I figured something wrong with it. Then last night as my buddy and I were trying to figure out why my sub stopped working. We thought it was the amp so we installed another amp. Well he didnt turn the power off to the sterio. And he accidentally grounded the amp. After that I couldnt get the head unit to start back up. YOu can tell there is a back lit light on but nothing else works. I tried to find a fuse on the sterio but the only thing I could find were two inline cylinder fuses behind the player which were ok.

How is your electrical wiring into the stereo and the amp? Are you using the same power and ground leads, installing both units in parallel out of the same source? If you are taking the RCA line level output from the head unit and connecting them to the amp, shorting the amp would probably not fry your unit. It may cause damage to the amp (other than a blown fuse) but not necessarily to the head unit.

Did you have the blue lead (remote amp ON/OFF) from the head unit connected to the amp when it was shorted? Once you replaced the fuses on the amp, did it work?

If you are taking power to the head unit and amp from the same source, you might have blown the fuse that is protecting this circuit (unless you are connected directly to the battery). Depending on the amperage, you could have blown the amp fuses along with the ones that protect this circuit. I don't know your boats electrical distribution system but I have seen some boats that have a breaker instead of a fuse, maybe you tripped the breaker on this circuit.

Do you have a voltmeter or any ways of checking if you are getting power into the head unit fuse? If you don't have one, try installing the red lead from the radio into a power source and see if this works (you may also want to try the yellow (should be this color) memory lead as well). Make sure you have not blown the fuses on these two leads (check for continuity on the fuses or replace them). If the head unit turns ON, there is a fuse on the current install (other than the one on the head unit) that has blown or a breaker that tripped. If it does not, you may have caused damage to this unit as well.

I am not sure how it is wired. I am going to start tracing lines this up coming week. My buddy is the one who wired it up. I have little clue when it comes to stereos.

Anyone have any opinions on http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW
I know I am going to need to get a new remote too. The thing I like about this head unit is it plays MP3's

Any unit that uses wireless remote technology should be compattable with your Clarion remotes. All the basic functions should still work fine.

Does your head unit have a reset button.?? If so, try that before buying a new unit.

to check that head unit you just need a test light to make sure it is getting power. but the clarion doesnt have a built in crossover or play mp3s, so thats reason enough to scrap it.

Crotchrocket, the ERR3 message should be displayed if a CD cannot be played due to scratches. If you have fingerprints on the CD, this might be another reason you are getting this message.

Were you able to find out if you have a power issue (i.e., blown fuse) or are you planning on replacing the unit? Keep in mind that if you have a blown fuse or tripped breaker and you use the connections from your existing unit, you will not get power into the new unit either.

Why is that place charging 229 at e-bay for it, when they are selling it for 157 on their web site?
