    Battery issue

Ok so from what I have read so far on this board I need a battery separator/combiner and possibly a shore charger. And more than likely new batteries with higher amp hours

    My setup
    Clarion XMD3 Head Unit
    Wet Sounds WS420 equalizer
Phoenix Gold Titanium 500.4 for the cabin speakers
Phoenix Gold Titanium 400.2 for the Subs
Phoenix Gold Titanium 500.4 for the tower
    Custom made sub box/seat
    JL Audio 10W3V2 subs
All Boston Acoustics pro series in cabin
Wet Sounds Pro 60 tower speakers
Wet Sounds MB 8 Tower speakers A.K.A. Double up system
All Monster 300 Series RCA cables
KnuKonceptz power cabling and dist. Blocks

    My problem
The stereo systematically shuts down when running at high volumes and while boat is not running. First the tower shuts down then the cabin speakers. My guess would be that the cabin speakers are not pulling as much power from the amp as the tower, and they are running on identical amps. I should add that the tower sometimes goes in and out while running.

Thanks for all suggestions and help.

    RE: Battery issue

What alternator does your boat have? Does it have a 100 amp? What kind and size batteries are you running?

        RE: Battery issue

        Chris,

Once batteries are toast, no matter how long you charge them, they will fail to fully charge. And this can also compound the problem while you're running.

The problem with the tower speakers not playing consistently could be caused by a number of issues beyond the obvious voltage dropping. The tower amplifier could be going into protection because its thermaling. Or, you could have a partially burnt voice coil on one or more tower speakers.

But before you can do any meaningful diagnosis you've first got to verify that voltage is good and all physical connections are solid.

Once you've verified that the DCR is okay on the individual tower speakers (and this is not a foolproof check) you may want to temporarily reverse the rolls of your 4-channel amplifiers to eliminate the possibility of a failing amplifier.
