    2009 SANTE polk stereo ?

i have a 2009 SANTE w/ the stock polk rig. i thought i blew my tower speakers b/c they started crackling last week. i turned off teh stereo. the next day i went out and it sounded fine, but if i listen to a song with a lot of low end loud (at about 23 on the volume) the woofer would cut off or the speakers would start to crackle again.

is this the amps going bad? the speakers? any help is appreciated!

Lot's of reported issues with the tower speaker wiring in the 2009 Nautiques...

See this thread to see if your problem is similar. I have yet to take my boat in for service to get this addressed since I didn't want to be without my boat in peak season.

I would be inclined to think the settings on the amps are the issue. The gains may be too high, the crossover may be too low
and/or you don't have enough power to push at higher volumes.

          airhuck,

The first potential cause to check and eliminate is voltage. Check the voltage at the amplifier terminals at the point it starts to misbehave. Look into what your depletion and charging regimen is. I always suspect voltage first.

Then check the DCR of each channel of the tower speakers. The collective DCR of two speakers per channel should be no lower than 1.8 ohms (DC resistance is not the same as AC impedance).

It sounds like the tower speakers and sub may be on the same amplifier. If you have dual 4-channel amplifiers, the workload should be redistributed so that the two heaviest jobs are no longer on the same amplifier.

After that, it can be mistuned. Are the crossovers high enough? Is the amplifier bass EQ off? Are the HU tone controls set to flat? Are you using burnt CDs or an MP3 layer where either the software or player have built-in equaliztion?

Any one of the above factors could contribute to your amplifier going into thermal failure.

Also, as a sidenote, check your gains as 23 sounds a little hot to reach full output, if that is the case. Hope this helps.
